New York, New York, July 30, 2026

Stackstoday activated the PoX-5 hard fork at a Bitcoin block height of 960,230, successfully establishing the protocol basis for Bitcoin pledge. The network upgrade was completed without interruption, and core contributors confirmed the activation status during post-upgrade inspections. Signatories, node operators and major exchange partners, including Binance, completed the migration before activation. Currently, the network is operating under the new PoX-5 consensus rules, and ecosystem contributors are advancing subsequent deployments as planned. PoX-5 is the first protocol version in the "Satoshi Upgrade" series, and Stacks core contributors will announce other content of the series in detail in the coming weeks.

During the entire upgrade process, block production continued and steadily, and the signers successfully transitioned to the new consensus rules without interruption. The pledge pool operator is currently completing the migration, and it is expected that the pledger will be able to re-pledge before the next cycle in advance, and no pledge rewards will be lost during the transition period.

With the launch of PoX-5, the protocol basis for Bitcoin pledges is in place, allowing Bitcoin holders to obtain self-custodial Bitcoin gains through Bitcoin bonds, while retaining existing rewards that pledge only STX users. The upgrade also removes the cooling period, simplifies the pool participation process, and lays the foundation for the next phase of Bitcoin's native finance.

"PoX-5 marks the first step in anchoring Bitcoin capital to Stacks, and I am very happy to see the network's successful transition and we are looking forward to the issuance of the first institutional Genesis Bond. PoX-5 is an important step, and we will share more details about Satoshi Nakamoto's overall vision for the upgrade in late August."

Muneeb Ali, founder of Stacks

PoX-5 introduces Bitcoin bonds at the protocol level, where eligible participants can pair BTC held on Bitcoin's first-tier network with STX on Stacks to earn self-custodial Bitcoin gains. Participation will begin with phased deployment, starting with institutional genesis bonds, and then opening them to a wider range of users through selected pledge pools as capacity expands.

More deployment updates, network health data, and Bitcoin pledge resources will be released when subsequent milestones are reached. Whether you are re-pledging today or watching deployment progress from the sidelines, thank you for helping build the next chapter of Bitcoin on Stacks.
