Quantum attacks will not announce in advance that
when quantum computers can crack wallet encryption technology, the key it cracks has been quietly collected years ago.
"We often use this expression: harvest first, decrypt later. Now, all your data is being harvested. Public keys are kept and shelved by various malicious actors preparing for the day when quantum computers will emerge. So, the risk is now."-- said Jerry Lagas, chief operating officer of Krown Technologies. Krown is a blockchain company, and its product Qastle is called by Lagas the first hot wallet with true quantum security.
From marginal topics to hot words
Lagas witnessed first-hand the rapid entry of this topic into mainstream view.
"Quantum has become a hot word for everyone in the past six months. But the popularity was high enough to attract a lot of attention, and people began to really study it." he said. Krown entered the game before the popularity hit. The company partnered with Quantum eMotion, a publicly traded quantum security company, which developed the technology "before it became a buzzword." The two sides jointly launched Qastle on November 1, 2025, claiming to be the first quantum security hot money bag, combining post-quantum cryptography and quantum random number generation technology. Quantum eMotion grants Krown an exclusive global license allowing it to commercialize its QRNG2 entropy technology in blockchain and DeFi applications.
Stop stalling!
What really worried him was not suspicion, but procrastination. "People think it's too far away," Lagas said."They're not too slow and feel we'll talk about it later." He believes that this posture completely misinterprets the threat model. Traditional hacking attacks occur instantly, while "harvest first" attacks mean that the risk begins the moment the data is collected, not the day it is decrypted. For long-term assets, such as an address whose public key is exposed today and still holds Bitcoin ten years later, the attack has already begun in a sense. "It's a very bad attitude because that's what quanta does-harvest first," he said."They're harvesting, and when quanta does come, it's as silent as a thief in the night."
A clock that no one can read
Estimates vary greatly as to when quantum computers with cryptography-related capabilities will be available. Some researchers believe it will be ten years or more, others believe it will be sooner. But the logic of "harvesting first, decrypting later" does not depend on the timetable. This is what makes it disturbing: for every year of delay, an additional year of harvesting keys accumulate. "What we're doing," Lagas said,"is trying to stay proactive rather than reactive."
