MasterCard completes the acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK with a transaction value of US$1.8 billion

On Monday, MasterCard announced that it has completed the acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK with a transaction value of US$1.8 billion. The acquisition combines MasterCard's global network with BVNK's on-chain infrastructure to enable interoperability between digital currency and legal tender. MasterCard said the integration will help financial institutions, fintech companies and companies expand the use of stablecoins and tokenized assets in cross-border commercial payments, fund settlement, clearing and treasury capital flows.

In a separate statement, BVNK confirmed that it has officially become part of Mastercard, adding that customers will continue to use the original team, products and integrated services without any action required. BVNK pointed out that this cooperation will allow banks to provide stablecoin payment services and connect customer accounts to wallets, while payment service providers can achieve round-the-clock merchant settlement. BVNK also said MasterCard's global coverage will expand its card business capabilities and international fund transfer services.

In March this year, MasterCard agreed to acquire BVNK for up to $1.8 billion (including $300 million in contingent consideration). The deal follows Coinbase and BVNK abandoning a proposed $2 billion deal in November 2025, when the deal was already in the due diligence stage.
