[TAG JPYC, a Japanese-registered Yen-stablecoin issuer, has raised 6 billion yen in Series B financing

JPYC Inc, a Japanese-registered Yen-stablecoin issuer, has raised 6 billion yen (about 38 million US dollars) in an extended Series B financing and attracted a large domestic logistics company to participate. The company is aggressively expanding its presence in Japan's growing digital payments market. The latest investment comes from Tokyo-listed logistics company AZ-COM Maruwa, worth 1 billion yen ($6.3 million). Metaplanet Ventures had already invested 400 million yen ($2.53 million) in the round in March.

Logistics company plans to use stablecoin for salary payments

AZ-COM Maruwa's customers include Amazon Japan, which said it plans to use JPYC to pay fees and salaries to approximately 2300 business partners and individual contractors. The company is said to believe that the yen stablecoin transfers is fast and is a practical solution to attract business partners and deal with driver shortages caused by an aging workforce and stricter overtime regulations. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on the company's plans last month.

JPYC said that the proceeds from this round of financing will be used to expand its financial and Web3 ecosystems and accelerate the promotion of stablecoins pegged to the yen. Launched in October last year, the company became Japan's first stablecoin to register under updated payment service rules, and has since begun a payment pilot at a store in Japan's third-largest convenience store chain, Rosen.

Traditional banks join Japan's stablecoin race

The Japanese authorities have expressed their support for the wider adoption of stablecoins, and traditional financial institutions have also responded. SBI Group launched JPYSC in June, becoming the country's first yen stablecoin endorsed by a trust bank. Japan's three major banks-Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Mizuho Bank-are working together to jointly issue their own stablecoins.

AZ-COM Maruwa's investment is an important signal that industrial companies outside the financial industry are starting to view the yen stablecoin as a practical infrastructure for supply chain payments and contractor settlements, rather than just betting on digital assets.
