Blockchain.com obtains Cayman Islands VASP license to extend custody services

Blockchain.com has been approved by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) to become a virtual asset service provider (VASP), thereby allowing it to provide regulated cryptocurrency custody services in the country.

License Details

CIMA officially granted a new license to Blockchain.com on July 22, 2026. This development allows the company to provide secure custody services for digital assets to its customers in the Cayman Islands, as well as exchange services between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies, and between cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrencies.

This approval was obtained after CIMA issued a preliminary conditional permit in December 2025. Blockchain.com has maintained a VASP registration status in the Cayman Islands since May 2022, which supports its presence and continued operations in the region.

This license expands the international regulatory landscape of Blockchain.com and marks an important step in the company's development as a global cryptocurrency service provider.

Micro-Dictionary: The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) is the Cayman Islands 'primary financial services regulator and oversees banks, funds, insurance and virtual asset service providers to ensure compliance and financial stability.

Regulatory Milestones and Strategies

Lane Kasselman, co-CEO of Blockchain.com, described the move as another regulatory achievement for the company. He pointed out that Blockchain.com has also recently obtained a Crypto Asset Markets Act (MiCA) license covering the European Economic Area and has completed registration with the UK Financial Conduct Authority.

Kasselman said: "We believe strong regulation is critical to the long-term development of digital assets, and these approvals further enhance our ability to serve customers in the region."

Blockchain.com's expanding regulatory compliance system demonstrates its commitment to serving a wider customer base by complying with local laws and international standards.

Continuing expansion of cryptocurrency services

By obtaining a new VASP license, Blockchain.com has consolidated its position as a regulated crypto asset service provider in the Caribbean. The company continues to strengthen its service capabilities by obtaining regulatory approvals in key jurisdictions.

The license also allows Blockchain.com to enhance its redemption and custody services to meet the needs of retail and institutional customers seeking secure digital asset management.

As global regulatory requirements continue to increase, cryptocurrency companies like Blockchain.com demonstrate their credibility by obtaining licenses and win user trust in a rapidly growing industry.
