The XRP Ledger operations team has officially released version 3.3.0 of xrpld, one of the most significant upgrades to the blockchain network to date. The update introduces six new proposals that are currently awaiting validator approval. Developers and businesses are encouraged to prepare for integration in advance because these improved features have been under development for months.
Major upgrade targeting institutional applications
One of the core functions of this upgrade is to support bulk transactions, allowing up to eight transactions to be executed atomically. This means that all transactions in a batch either succeed or fail-eliminating the risk of partial execution and opening up more advanced application scenarios. Batch transactions are designed as an atomic process: all transactions in the same group succeed or fail together, providing institutional customers with a less trustworthy settlement method and complex transaction workflow. By enabling this feature, this upgrade enhances XRP Ledger's appeal to financial institutions and enterprises, especially for scenarios such as tokenized assets, over-the-counter settlements, and DeFi strategies.
The following is an overview of the main functions of this upgrade:
Bulk transactions: Support up to 8 atomic transactions
Authorization delegation: Allow specific wallets to perform limited operations
Sponsorship : Third parties can pay fees and reserves on their behalf
Dynamic MPT: Allowing changes to token attributes after issuance
Repair cleanup: Protocol fixes and bug fixes to improve reliability
The addition of authority delegation allows organizations to assign authority to perform restricted transactions to specific wallets. Treasury assets can now be better kept in cold storage, reducing exposure risks in daily operations. The sponsorship proposal further simplifies the user access process: Third parties can now pay transaction fees and meet reserve requirements on behalf of other users, lowering the barriers to entry for corporate and retail users.
Small Dictionary: xrpld-software that implements the XRP Ledger protocol, responsible for managing consensus, node communication, and transaction processing.
Performance and security upgrades
The new dynamic MPT feature allows issuers to modify the attributes of issued tokens, increasing asset flexibility. At the same time, the fix cleanup proposal focuses on protocol enhancements and bug fixes, aiming to improve network stability. Developers report that xrpld 3.3.0 has brought significant performance improvements: memory usage has been reduced by 10% to 15%, some workloads have been more significant, and node synchronization speeds have also been improved. These improvements help reduce infrastructure costs for network verifiers and improve ledger scalability over the long term.
Security is a key area of focus for this upgrade. Web3 security company Sherlock audited the changes before release and conducted confrontational testing. Auditors found 2 critical vulnerabilities, 6 high-risk vulnerabilities, 29 medium-risk vulnerabilities and 59 low-risk vulnerabilities, all of which were fixed before deployment. In recognition of responsible disclosure, a reward of 309,000 RLUSD was awarded through the Vulnerability Bounty Program.
Activation Path
Although these features are already available in advance, six proposals still require validator approval to be fully enabled on XRP Ledger. If approved, these features are expected to consolidate the platform's position in institutional finance, tokenized physical assets and decentralized application development. Verifiers now have the opportunity to vote on the adoption of proposals that are expected to further enhance XRP Ledger's influence in the global blockchain ecosystem.
