XRPL version 3.3.0 released: Towards institutional tokenization infrastructure
XRPL version 3.3.0 has been released, taking another step towards the goal of becoming an institutional tokenization infrastructure. The release introduces several proposed amendments focusing on privacy, payments and the management of real-world assets (RWA).
Confidential transfers
Perhaps the most significant new feature is "confidential transfers." This feature is designed to allow institutions to hide the balance and transaction amount of Multi-Function Tokens (MPTs), while keeping the relevant account and asset types visible. It uses cryptographic proof to verify the validity of transactions without publicly disclosing the underlying amount.
According to relevant GitHub posts and previous reports, this feature could address an important obstacle faced by financial institutions-they want to gain the transparency and settlement advantages of public blockchains while being reluctant to expose sensitive position sizes or transaction values.
Industry data shows that of the US$1.38 billion RWA issued on XRPL, approximately US$850 million came from Ripple's own stablecoin RLUSD. The remaining approximately US$530 million came from tokenized assets issued by other well-known institutions in the field, such as Ondo, Archax, Societe Generale and VERT Capital.
Other proposals
In addition to confidential transfers, other updates mentioned in version 3.3.0 include "Batch"," Sponsored "and" authority delegation ". The first amendment allows up to eight transactions to be grouped and includes an atomic pattern-that is, either all transactions succeed or the entire batch fails. This is expected to benefit complex settlements, swaps and institutional transactions.
The " Sponsorship " feature is designed to allow one account to bear the transaction fees and reserve requirements of another user. In other words, it allows companies to complete the customer's hands-on process without having to first purchase XRP to interact with the application.
The last "delegation of rights" allows an account holder to grant another party predefined transaction rights without surrendering full control of the wallet. This feature will work with dynamic MPT to allow certain token characteristics to be modified after issuance, providing greater flexibility for issuers.
It is worth noting that these amendments have not yet taken effect on the XRP ledger master website because the governance process requires each amendment to have the support of at least 80% trusted verifiers for two consecutive weeks before being activated.
