Key Points

Kalshi has integrated DoubleZero's organization-level data infrastructure for its forecasting market platform.

This data source utilizes a dedicated optical fiber network and provides both exchange and blockchain data to traders.

This marks the first time that the prediction market has provided real-time orderbook data for sports and cryptocurrency perpetual contracts.

Among Kalshi's weekly trading volume, sports accounted for 37.8%, and cryptocurrency accounted for 20.3%.

The platform is still responding to legal challenges filed by multiple U.S. states over sports-related contracts.

Available Data Capabilities

In a major infrastructure upgrade, forecasting market platform Kalshi integrated DoubleZero's organization-level data sources into its orderbook system. This cooperation aims to meet the growing needs of financial institutions for the speed and reliability of market information acquisition in the cryptocurrency and forecast markets.

DoubleZero runs on Solana, the leading Layer 1 blockchain network. Its DoubleZeroEdge solution serves as a transmission infrastructure that simultaneously distributes real-time exchange and blockchain data to all subscribing traders through a dedicated optical fiber connection.

The traditional financial sector has historically used dedicated Private Cloud infrastructure for high-speed data transmission, while cryptocurrency market participants rely mainly on regular Internet connections. DoubleZero aims to bridge this infrastructure gap.

"The distributed framework we are implementing is exactly the same as the mature model that has supported decades of traditional financial exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and Chicago Mercantile Exchange," the DoubleZero Foundation said in an announcement on Wednesday.

Kalshi became the first forecast market to provide real-time order book information for sports and cryptocurrency perpetual futures through a professional data distribution system. Perpetual futures contracts in cryptocurrencies are derivatives that allow traders to speculate on the price of the underlying asset without an expiration date. These tools are among Kalshi's most traded products.

Users who subscribe to the data source will receive machine-readable order book information from Kalshi. This feature eliminates the need for traders to build their own infrastructure from API responses and raw order book data.

According to DoubleZero co-founder Austin Federa, data accessibility is a "critical part" of the overall market infrastructure, but this supporting framework has historically been missing in emerging financial areas such as cryptocurrencies and forecasting markets. The two companies jointly announced the news on Wednesday that new subscribers can immediately start using the DoubleZero Edge service.

Platform trading activity analysis

Data from Dune Analytics shows that among Kalshi categories, foreign contracts lead the way with 39.4% of nominal weekly trading volume. The sports-related market accounted for 37.8%, while cryptocurrency contracts accounted for 20.3%.

Kalshi and Polymarket are the two leading forecasting market platforms in the world. In early July this year, OpenAI integrated Kalshi's predicted market probabilities for FIFA World Cup matches into ChatGPT's search function.

Platforms such as Kalshi generate probability assessments for events such as central bank interest rate decisions and economic inflation data release. These major events affecting the market can trigger price adjustments in milliseconds, highlighting the importance of rapid data transfers to institutional market participants.

Meanwhile, Kalshi continues to face regulatory review. Several states in the United States, including Michigan, Kentucky and Nevada, have questioned the platform's sports event contracts, arguing that these products are unauthorized sports betting activities. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission responded that federal regulators have jurisdiction over such contracts and have filed legal lawsuits against multiple states to uphold their positions, which are still ongoing.
