Trump will meet with leaders of Ripple, Coinbase, SEC and CFTC, CLARITY bill pending

U.S. President Donald Trump is reported to attend a high-profile White House meeting next week, as Washington's efforts to establish a comprehensive digital asset framework are not yet complete.

It is expected that some of the important industry participants attending the event will come from Ripple, Coinbase, Chainlink, Paradigm, Kalshi and a16z.

The White House Crypto Conference

This conference is scheduled to be held on August 19 and will bring together the heads of some of the most influential crypto companies in the United States and two agencies that may eventually jointly oversee the market. There have been reports that senior executives from entities in the traditional financial sector may also participate, but the list of attendees has not yet been officially confirmed.

The latest news from well-known journalist Eleanor Trett confirmed that Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins is also expected to attend.

The timing of the meeting was remarkable because just a few weeks ago, the Senate entered a five-week August recess without voting on the CLARITY Act. It was reported in early August that the key bill suffered another setback. Senate Majority Leader John Thune had filed an application to end debate on the motion, and a vote was scheduled for September 15-the day after the recess ended.

The bill aims to establish a comprehensive federal regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, including clarifying when tokens should be considered securities or commodities, and clarifying the respective responsibilities of the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). However, senators failed to resolve a number of outstanding differences before leaving Washington.

These differences include ethics provisions, anti-money laundering safeguards, and the controversial issue of whether digital asset companies should be allowed to reward customers for holding stablecoins. The last point has been strongly opposed by the banking industry, which believes that such products could siphon away deposits from traditional banks.

Focus on September 15

Although the August 19 meeting itself is unlikely to resolve any of the above issues or the Senate's vote-counting problem, it is still seen as an important first step in the right direction after the negotiations stalled. The possibility of actually passing the bill this year continues to decline. Lobbyists and policy experts believe the bill will not pass this year.

However, less than a month before the above-mentioned September 15 Senate vote, the opportunity to bring the White House and all parties involved together is difficult to ignore. The Trump administration continues to push for passage of the bill as soon as possible, but the upcoming midterm elections cast another shadow.
