South Korean investors have returned to the cryptocurrency market with record trading volume, with an altcoin reaching the top.

The strong rebound in the cryptocurrency market led by bitcoin has prompted South Korean investors to switch back to cryptoassets. Meanwhile, trading volume at Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, surged 273% to US$1.84 billion in the past 24 hours, setting the exchange's highest single-day trading volume since mid-March.

The most traded cryptocurrency on Upbit is XRP, with a 24-hour transaction volume of approximately US$418.9 million, followed by Bitcoin, USDT and Ethereum.

Trading volume of Bithumb, South Korea's second-largest exchange, also increased by 132.9% to US$934.9 million, and XRP also became the largest cryptocurrency traded on the exchange.

Min Jung, a researcher at Presto Research, said that the bear market that began in late 2025 and continued into 2026 has kept South Korean investors away from the cryptocurrency market. He pointed out that South Korean investors have mainly focused on stocks recently, but the recent rise in Bitcoin has rekindled their interest in the cryptocurrency market.

Jung said that if the upward trend continues, more funds may flow into the cryptocurrency market from South Korea. He concluded that South Korean investors typically pursue returns rather than being limited to a single asset, and if the bitcoin-led rally continues, they will focus more on the cryptocurrency market, which could further strengthen the rally.
