TRM: Artificial intelligence adoption in cryptocurrency crimes has increased by 40% in one year
According to TRM Labs, the adoption rate of artificial intelligence in cryptocurrency crimes has increased by 40% in the past year. Its 2026 index shows that the application score in this field has increased from approximately 28 points in 2024 to 54 points (out of 100). Fraud has entered a stage of mature adoption, while hacking and ransomware are still in their emerging stages. Security teams are also using artificial intelligence to expose vulnerabilities and block suspicious transfers.
Artificial intelligence cryptocurrency crime expands through fraud and automated attacks
TRM said that since 2022, the number of reported cryptocurrency fraud related to artificial intelligence has increased by as much as 13 times. The reported deep counterfeiting fraud losses in 2026 have exceeded 263% of the total for the whole year of 2025. Chatbots, synthetic identities and cloned media allow small gangs to target more victims.
Artificial intelligence cryptocurrency crimes have also entered the field of automated ransomware operations. Sysdig documented Operation JADEPUFFER-an artificial intelligence-driven attack against exposed Langflow servers. The agent performs reconnaissance, credential searches, lateral movements, and destructive database encryption. It corrected a failed login in 31 seconds, demonstrating the rapid adaptability of automated attacks.
TRM statistics show that there were 201 digital asset hacking incidents in the first half of 2026. About 75% of the losses came from just 4% of incidents, most of which were infrastructure intrusions. Damage caused by North Korea-related operations was approximately US$600 million, accounting for 61% of the total losses.
