BitMart announced on August 21, 2026 that the exchange is developing a restructuring plan that may include a phased resumption of operations. This announcement does not change the relevant dates that apply to your account balance. Trading will close at 01:00 UTC on August 26, 2026, and withdrawal requests must be submitted before 05:00 UTC on the same day. Anyone who chooses not to take action while waiting for the restart mentioned in the announcement is relying on a review that the company has made clear reservations.
This difference is the core of this article. An announcement that brings hope and a countdown deadline are two different things. The former requires further legal, financial, operational and regulatory review. The latter is clearly marked with the date and time.
BitMart Restructuring: What the Exchange announced on August 21
Through the @BitMartExchange account on the X platform, the exchange released an "Update on BitMart's Potential Restructuring and Business Recovery Plans" on August 21, 2026. The notice clearly continues the announcement of July 26, 2026, after the company had begun to shut down its trading platform in an orderly manner.
Core of the new notice: BitMart said it is working on a possible restructuring plan as an alternative to a complete shutdown. The plan may provide for the phased restoration of certain business areas in an orderly manner and distribution to creditors. All content is subject to further legal, financial, operational and regulatory evaluation.
Restructuring is an attempt to continue the company by reorganizing its business, debt or ownership structure, rather than dissolving the company. BitMart also appointed White & Case law firm as a restructuring consultant and promised to release a detailed roadmap by September 9, 2026 at the latest. Relevant reports quoted the exchange's original text and pointed out that BitMart has not committed to resuming operations.
Restructuring rather than closure: What the difference means for your balance
Orderly closure refers to the planned termination of business operations: stopping new business, processing outstanding debt, and ultimately closing. This is exactly the step BitMart initiated on July 26, 2026, immediately suspending new registrations, top-ups and new trading orders. In our previous article about BitMart's cessation of operations, we described the rationality of this step at the time and the consequences it incurred.
The new notice does not lift the process. It describes an alternative that is being studied. In the language of the notice, a potential plan is discussed, not a decision. For you, as an account holder, this means that your balance status will continue to follow the procedures that have been in place since July 26, rather than the eventual outcome.
This is not a judgment of the company's intentions. This is a natural consequence based on one simple fact: an announced review has no legal effect on an arranged suspension of trading as long as the suspension is not explicitly lifted. The August 21 notice did not contain any such lifting.
Trading suspended at 01:00 UTC on August 26: Announcement not postponed what
According to details released by BitMart during the phase-out process, the transaction will end at 01:00 UTC on August 26, 2026. Spot, futures and other trading services will be affected. Converted to German time, that is, August 26 at 03:00 CEST, which is late at night.
The exchange recommends that users complete identity verification and close all trading positions before this time point. Therefore, anyone holding an open position should not leave it until the last moment, because after a trading pause, no sell operations will be available and positions that cannot be sold will no longer be convertible into other currencies.
As of the writing of this article, this date is less than four days away. The August 21 notice did not mention any new date replacing that date.
Withdrawal requests deadline at 05:00 UTC: Why are the two times only four hours apart
The second time is more important. According to exchange regulations, withdrawal requests must be submitted before 05:00 UTC (i.e. 07:00 CEST) on August 26, 2026. There are only four hours between the end of the transaction and the deadline for the request.
This time window is more tense than it seems. During an orderly shutdown, this does not just mean sending requests. It also includes completing identity verification, storing and confirming the withdrawal address, and depending on the account, double verification may be required. Anyone who started looking for login information within those four hours has actually missed the window.
Nor is the submission of a request the same as execution. A submitted withdrawal request is an instruction that needs to be processed. The processing time cannot be measured externally, nor does the exchange set binding deadlines for it.

What has been announced so far is only a review, not a completed relaunch: the program exists only as a draft, not as an availability date for your account.
White & Case as reorganization consultant: What does hiring a law firm prove and what does not prove
It has been established that BitMart has appointed an international commercial law firm to serve as reorganization consultant, which will evaluate available options and assist in developing possible plans. This is a serious step, not an insignificant footnote: such commissions cost money and will not be given for show.
What is uncertain is all the other things one might want to deduce from it. Hiring a consultant does not say whether the plan will be realized, whether regulators will accept it, when the account will be available again, or to what extent claims will be satisfied. This is a procedural step, not a result.
Any act that translates law firm involvement into predictions of outcomes replaces outstanding issues with assumptions. For decisions to be made in four days, this will not work.
September 9 Roadmap: What BitMart actually promises
The only commitment dated in the notice is the roadmap. BitMart announced that it will release further details on the possible resumption of individual services and the framework for distribution to creditors by September 9, 2026.
This date is fourteen days after the trading suspension and two weeks after the withdrawal request period ends. This is the critical order of events: First, the window of time where you can take action yourself closes, and then you can learn what the plan is about. Anyone who reverses the order and wants to wait until September 9 to make a decision will have done nothing on August 26.
September 9 is also set as the latest date for announcing details rather than the implementation date. Details are announced, not payments.
Distribution to creditors: What this wording means in reorganization
In its English notice, BitMart used the word "distribution to creditors". This is the company's choice of wording, not our characterization.
Generally, the term is used in reorganization and closure proceedings to describe claims in a fixed order of priority and are usually not satisfied in full. Creditors refer to those who hold claims against the company, which is different from those whose property is entrusted solely by the company. In emergency situations, whether the balance on the trading platform is processed as recoverable property or as an ordinary claim depends on the provider's place of registration and applicable laws.
In BitMart's case, what this means is not stated in the notice. It makes no mention of procedures or legal systems, nor does it mention proportions or deadlines for such allocations. The company has not stated whether formal procedures have been initiated, and we do not make this assertion. The only thing that can be recorded is that the exchange itself uses a term that presupposes the priority of claims.
Phased recovery: Why a phased restart is not the available date for your account
"Phased recovery" or "phased restart" means phased recovery: individual services resume running one after another, rather than the entire platform resume at the same time. The notice did not say which phase would take place first.
This has two important impacts on your account. First, the first stage does not have to be a withdrawal; it may also involve transactions, individual trading pairs, or partial functions. Second, there are no words that promise that such a stage will happen. Based on its own wording, the exchange has not committed to resuming operations.
This makes the announcement fully in line with its own definition: a statement of intent pending review. That's good news for people who can't use their balances anyway. But for those who can still take action, it is no substitute for action itself.
Authentication before withdrawal: Why KYC determines your schedule
KYC stands for "know your customer" and means that it is the responsibility of financial service providers to establish and record customer identities. Most trading platforms will not allow withdrawals without verification.
BitMart explicitly recommends that users complete this verification by August 26. In practice, schedules often come into trouble here because authentication cannot be completed in minutes: files need to be uploaded, read, and approved, and at the provider currently shutting down, the wait time is foreseeable.
If you have an account with this exchange but have not logged in for months, the first step today is to log in and check that verification is complete and that the withdrawal address is archived. Everything else is after this.

Exports are being drawn and the balance is still on them: the request period ends at 05:00 UTC on August 26.
Wait or withdraw: The decision on which calculations work before August 26
boils down to a simple comparison. People who withdraw their balances and then see the restart coming will need to pay withdrawal fees and network fees, and will need to find a new trading venue. People who wait and then see that the restart failed have no access to their funds and have to rely on a program with unknown results and timelines.
These two mistakes have different costs. One is cost and effort, and the other is losing access to all funds indefinitely. Faced with such unbalanced costs, costly mistakes should be avoided, even if they seem unlikely.
There are two common ways to question the whereabouts of tokens after withdrawal. Either transfer to your own custody, for which you can check our hardware wallet comparison, or transfer to another trading venue. If you want to continue trading rather than just holding, the factors to consider will largely depend on whether the new provider is authorized in the EU.
Choosing the right network: What to pay attention to when withdrawing your address
A practical tip about networks: During the withdrawal process, it is not only the token itself that determines the cost and availability, but also the network chosen. If an asset does not support a certain network, sometimes the same asset can be extracted through different networks. In this case, be sure to check that the destination address matches the selected network.
Remaining balance after August 26: What announcement does BitMart have for the period ending January 2027?
According to the exchange, the platform will not be closed immediately after trading is suspended. The original closure plan provided for a complete closure by January 31, 2027. During this period, what will happen to the remaining positions that have not submitted withdrawal requests is the most difficult part of the process for affected persons to control.
This is a recurring pattern in closed trading venues: After the regular deadline ends, access will switch to an exception path that is slower, requires more evidence, and may attach additional conditions. We have outlined typical steps in an article on how to respond when a cryptocurrency exchange closes.
Whether and in what form BitMart provides such routes was not mentioned in the August 21 notice. The promised September 9 roadmap may explain something, but you cannot rely on it because it makes no commitments on this issue.
German tax consequences: Why sales under time pressure are still taxable events
If you sell rather than withdraw a token before the transaction is suspended, it is a taxable event like any other sale. The fact that it happened under time pressure and because the provider was closed will not change its nature. The general rules governing private disposal transactions remain decisive, especially holding periods and tax exemptions.
The difference is huge. Simply withdrawing tokens to your own address is not a sale and will not in itself trigger a taxable event. In contrast, conversion to another cryptocurrency is generally treated as a sale for tax purposes, even if there is no change of hands of the euro.
Therefore, anyone who triggers multiple transactions on these days should clearly record: time, quantity, consideration, fees and destination address. The subsequent reconstruction of these details on a closed platform is why many affected people ultimately had to evaluate their records. Please download your trading history while the platform is still accessible.
BitMart Announcement August 21: Matters Determined and Still Pending
Key points have been identified: A notice issued through the Exchange X account on August 21, 2026 appointing White & Case as a restructuring consultant, describing a possible plan as an alternative to a complete shutdown, reserving rights for further legal, financial, operational and regulatory review, and a commitment to publish the roadmap no later than September 9, 2026. The closure date has also been set: trading will be suspended at 01:00 UTC on August 26, withdrawal requests will expire at 05:00 UTC, and full closure will be on January 31, 2027.
Restrictions on this account
Almost all information needed for planning is still pending. We don't know whether the plan will materialize, which services will be restarted in what order, whether and to what extent claims will be satisfied, which legal system will apply, or how many users in Germany will be affected. We also don't know how long it will take to process withdrawal requests submitted on time.
There is no reliable data at all of these points, which is why they do not appear in this article. If a detail is missing, it is because it is not public information.
Checking BitMart Deadline: Summary of Points
If you hold a balance on this exchange, please perform the three steps in this order.
Log in today and check your account status.
Check whether authentication is complete, whether the withdrawal address has been archived, and which assets can be used for withdrawal. Also download your trading history. If you later need another trading venue, an overview of EU regulated cryptocurrency exchanges will help you make your choice.
Close positions and submit withdrawal requests before 01:00 UTC on August 26.
Don't wait for the September 9 roadmap, as it appears two weeks after the withdrawal request period ends. Which providers are suitable for transfers and how they differ in terms of fees and scope, our cryptocurrency exchange comparison page will show you.
Record every transaction.
Record the time, quantity, consideration, and cost of each sale and withdrawal because you need to use these details in your tax return and will not be able to retrieve them after closing. Our cryptocurrency tax software and tools in Portfolio Tracker Compare can help you keep records.
The reorganization is likely to succeed. But this is by no means a reason to let a deadline that ends before then slip away.
