SOL 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds: The first step of Solana's four-step plan
Slot is a very short window of time for the validator to generate blocks. On Friday, Solana shortened it from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds. At first glance, there is nothing special about it, but it comes as market attention to SOL reaches a level unseen in months, and this change is meaningful.
Brief overview
Solana has reduced the Slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, leaving three stages before the final goal of 200 milliseconds. The reduction in Slot time reduces latency for encrypted users, but does not increase the total capacity of the Solana network. Driven by seven consecutive weeks of ETF inflows and announcements from the U.S. Treasury Department, the SOL price exceeded $91.
From 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds: The first step of Solana's four-step plan
Last Friday morning, Solana's main network completed an update, shortening the target Slot time from the previous 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds. This time corresponds to a short window for the specified validator to generate a cryptographic transaction block. The change is part of a proposed improvement to SIMD-0525, which aims to reduce SOL's final target Slot time to 200 milliseconds-only half the network's historical time.
However, for crypto users, faster transaction confirmations are not an improvement in throughput. The workload processed by the Solana network per second has not increased, but the time has been re-divided:
-The period (Epoch) containing 432,000 slots has been shortened from approximately 48 hours to approximately 42 hours;
-The verifier rotation time for continuously controlling 4 slots has been shortened from 1.6 seconds to 1.4 seconds;
--1000 Slot cycles, which originally took 415 seconds, now only take 368 seconds.
Solana's SIMD-0525 proposal. Before reaching the 200-millisecond goal, the plan has three additional 50-millisecond steps, each of which will be activated separately. If too many validators cannot complete block generation within the specified time, deployment may even be suspended. No specific date has yet been set, and developers hope to observe how the network is operating at 350 milliseconds before moving to the next step.
Crypto Market: SOL has the perfect opportunity
Solana's technical update did not come out of thin air, but coincides with the real recovery of SOL in the crypto market. The token rose more than 19% this week, breaking through the $94 mark and setting its highest level in nearly three months. This momentum comes not only from the price of SOL, but also from the fact that Solana's ETF has just achieved net inflows for the seventh consecutive week. During the week from August 10 to 14, capital inflows reached US$10.26 million, the best performance since May 22. Two factors drove this rise:
-the U.S. Treasury Department announced an extension of debt repurchase operations, injecting liquidity into the entire crypto market;
-the shortening of the Slot time is a positive technical signal for crypto investors who are already paying attention to the Solana ecosystem.
Solana's official account will naturally not miss this moment, posting a message celebrating the spirit of those builders and innovators who continue to build when no one believes it. This communication choice fully demonstrates the team's confidence at a time when price and technical fundamentals are finally improving simultaneously.
These two technical and financial dynamics remain independent. Solana's 350-millisecond Slot time does not guarantee the price of SOL, and ETF inflows cannot predict whether the remaining three steps will successfully achieve the 200-millisecond target. But at least this time, both indicators are on the green light at the same time-and this is perhaps the most important thing.
