Alpaca, a brokerage infrastructure provider, completes a new round of financing and receives US$135 million in equity led by Peak XV.
Alpaca, a brokerage infrastructure provider, announced the completion of a new round of financing, led by Peak XV, raising US$135 million in equity funds. In addition, the company has received up to $300 million in debt financing from Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, and BMO, one of Canada's largest financial institutions.
Growth and Financing Milestones
In January this year, Alpaca completed its Series D financing, raising US$150 million, and the company's valuation reached US$1.15 billion. BNP Paribas 'venture capital arm was one of its early investors, reflecting the continued interest in the company from major players in the financial sector. Alpaca plans to use the newly raised funds to further advance its agent-first brokerage services and expand its API-driven premium brokerage infrastructure.
Strategic positioning in digital transformation
Yoshi Yokokawa, co-founder and CEO of Alpaca, emphasized the importance of advancing regulated infrastructure that is in line with the realities of the new market. "As tokenization reshapes access to global markets and artificial intelligence accelerates the creation of new financial applications and market participants, the need for regulated infrastructure built for this paradigm shift is growing," he said. According to Token Terminal data, the global market value of tokenized stocks reached a record $2.3 billion this week. This milestone reflects the growing trend of crypto platforms combining traditional investment products with blockchain-based services, assets that are often open to international investors outside the United States.
(Note: Tokenized stocks refer to digital representations of traditional company shares, allowing investors to purchase and trade equity-backed tokens on blockchain platforms, thereby improving accessibility and efficiency in global markets.)
Growing alliances and industry cooperation
Last month, Binance announced a revenue sharing partnership with Alpaca. Alpaca provides brokerage, clearing and custody infrastructure for Binance's stock trading products, further expanding its influence in connecting traditional finance and the blockchain ecosystem. Founded in 2015, Alpaca focuses on developing technology for brokers and providing APIs that allow companies to embed investment capabilities into their platforms. Its infrastructure also supports emerging financial technology companies and established institutions seeking to expand their product lines in the digital asset space. Kraken's parent company Payward is the world's leading digital asset platform, while BMO (Bank of Montreal) is one of the largest banks in North America, actively providing financing services in both traditional and emerging technology fields.
