White House officials postpone military training and push for passage of encryption bill

A White House official responsible for promoting the most important encryption bill in U.S. history was scheduled to leave his post this month to participate in military training, but he chose to stay and complete his mission.

Patrick Vitter, executive director of the White House Digital Assets Advisory Board, announced on July 20 that his scheduled training of military judges in the Georgia Army National Guard had been postponed, allowing him to continue advancing the CLARITY Act, which is about to face a key vote in the Senate. Witt originally planned to leave his post for several months on July 27, just at this time, the bill was approaching the full house review stage.

The CLARITY Act is widely regarded as the most important crypto legislation currently before Congress. The bill will establish the United States 'first comprehensive federal regulatory framework for digital asset markets, supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission respectively. For an industry that has been in a regulatory blur for years, passage of the bill will ultimately provide crypto companies with clear rules on how to classify and regulate their tokens and platforms.

Why timing is so important

Witt made it clear that he knows the importance of this timing. "Over the past year, I have worked hard to push the passage of the CLARITY Act to fulfill President Trump's vision of making America the world's crypto capital," Witt wrote. He pointed out that just last week, news of his imminent departure had just spread,"just as the CLARITY Act was about to go before the Senate."

"Although I remain committed to fulfilling my service obligations, I am pleased to inform you that my training has been postponed so that I can stick with this cause," he added, thanking President Trump and White House director of encryption David Sachs for the opportunity.

This is not the first time Witt has postponed the same training; he had previously postponed it in April due to CLARITY Act negotiations.

The time window ahead is tight

The Senate's schedule is becoming increasingly tense. Aug. 7 is the last scheduled sessional date before lawmakers enter the state's work period that begins on Aug. 10, making it a key target date for supporters trying to avoid delays caused by election-year politics.

The CLARITY Act will establish federal rules for the digital asset market, which will be regulated by the SEC and the CFTC. Witt's retention does not resolve fundamental differences that still hinder the bill's progress, particularly unresolved ethical provisions that the White House has not yet accepted and that aim to restrict elected officials from profiting from crypto-related businesses.
