@PiCoreTeam announced that its main network will transition to Protocol 26, and all node operators must complete technology upgrades by August 11, 2026. Nodes that fail to complete within the time limit will be immediately disconnected from the Pi main network, losing the ability to verify transactions and participate in network consensus.
This upgrade is not an isolated incident. Pi Network is undergoing an orderly series of infrastructure renovations, the most significant technological change since its launch. In Pi Network's gradual upgrade plan, each protocol version is directly built on the previous version, forming a strict chain of dependencies. Nodes cannot skip any version, which means that all operators must complete each pre-step in order to be eligible to transition to Protocol 26.
Protocol 26: Gateway to Protocol 27
According to @PiCoreTeam, Protocol 26 is the final pre-phase of Protocol 27, which is described as the ultimate technological transformation in the network's 2026 roadmap. The team pointed out that as it enters this final stage of ecosystem development, the network is prioritizing the pursuit of high reliability standards.
Protocol v26.0 completes a series of technology upgrades focusing on security and scalability, with its broader goal of transforming the network from a closed state to a fully open, interoperable blockchain ecosystem. The overall goal of this round of upgrades is to consolidate the technical foundation of blockchain, focus on improving security, decentralization, performance and scalability, and pave the way for a wider range of Web3 applications.
So far, every step in the upgrade sequence has been completed and is progressing smoothly as planned. This achievement not only reflects the execution of Pi technology, but also reflects the reliability of its node operator community. With Protocol 26 already enforced on the main network and Protocol 27 coming soon, the network appears to be nearing the end of its years of infrastructure construction.
