The Ethereum Foundation appoints security researcher pcaversaccio to its board of directors
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has announced a major change to its board of directors, and pcaversaccio (pc), a long-time security researcher and ecosystem contributor, has been appointed to the board of directors. He will form the foundation's four-member board of directors with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum Foundation President Aya Miyaguchi, and Swiss legal adviser Patrick Storchenegger.
Currently, pcaversaccio will serve for a one-year volunteer term. He brings years of experience in blockchain security, privacy and protocol management to Ethereum's top governance body.
Who is the new board member pcaversaccio?
pcaversaccio, whose real name is Pascal Caversaccio, is one of the most well-known security contributors to Ethereum. He co-founded SEAL 911, a rapid-response security initiative designed to coordinate support during major exploits and vulnerability incidents. According to EF's official announcement, he previously served in the Ethereum Foundation's Silviculture Society, an advisory team committed to upholding Ethereum's principles of censorship resistance, open source collaboration, privacy and security.
In addition to Incident Response Service, pcaversaccio has also developed multiple widely used open source security tools for Ethereum developers. These tools include CreateX (the universal smart contract deployment framework), snekmate (a security library for Vyper smart contracts), and the Ethereum reentry attack history database. He has also developed tools for deterministic contract deployment and white-hat fund recovery, and maintains one of the most comprehensive collections of Ethereum security resources on GitHub, widely cited by smart contract developers and auditors.
Outside of technical work, he has been a staunch advocate of user privacy and autonomy. He wrote the "Ethereum Cyberpunk Manifesto" in 2024 and "Ethereum Privacy: The Road to Autonomy" in 2025. Both articles advocate strengthening privacy protection in the Ethereum ecosystem. In recent social media posts, he continues to advocate privacy-first technology, encourage users to adopt secure mobile operating systems such as GrapheneOS, and advocate that individuals should have full control of their own data. Shortly after the appointment was announced, he summarized his philosophy in one short sentence: "unconditional privacy."
Aya Miyaguchi, president of the Ethereum Foundation, also welcomed the appointment on social media, saying that pcaversaccio brought much more than security expertise and called him a "living example" of the foundation's values in practice. She said she looked forward to the perspective he would bring to the board. While the appointment does not change Ethereum's technology roadmap, it highlights the foundation's commitment to strengthening governance as the network enters a new phase of institutional adoption and ecosystem expansion.
Why does this appointment matter
The board expansion comes as multiple Ethereum-focused organizations seek to play a greater role outside the foundation. In recent months, initiatives such as ETH Ventures, backed by Consensus and BitMine, have been launched to accelerate investment in the Ethereum ecosystem. In addition, Ethereum Institutional has also been established to promote corporate adoption and institutional participation. While these initiatives have not replaced the Ethereum Foundation, they reflect a broader shift-that is, influence on the future of Ethereum is increasingly being spread across multiple organizations rather than concentrated on a single entity.
In this context, the foundation appears to be strengthening its traditional role as long-term manager of Ethereum, focusing on protocol security, decentralization and the core values that have defined the network since its birth.
