Chainlink's latest news: CRE replaces Functions and Automation, Link reserves are repurchased
Today's Chainlink news covers three independent developments that have been released in a few days:
- Circle's institutional-level blockchain Arc has joined the Chainlink Scale initiative
- Chainlink Functions and Automation are officially merged into CRE Workflow
- Chainlink Reserve repurchases another batch of tokens
Arc joins Chainlink Scale
The project has confirmed that Circle's Arc network has joined the Scale program, allowing Arc to acquire institutional-grade oracle infrastructure "from day one." The oracle network said it met the standards of Arc's own network participants-and specifically named BlackRock, DTCC and Mastercard.
The following is background information about the importance of the lineup:
Details :
-Confirmation: Arc opens the main online launch time-September 16, 2026
-Founding verification node: BlackRock, DTCC, Galaxy, Global Payments, ICE, Mastercard, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, Sumitomo Corp, Visa
- BlackRock's role: Expected deployment of its BUIDL fund through native USDC integration
- DTCC's role: tokenize DTC custody assets on Arc starting in the second half of 2027
- Chainlink's role: Both Oracle Infrastructure Partner (Scale) and listed as a first-day custody/wallet/connectivity partner
The oracle network not only provides oracle infrastructure here, but is also listed as Arc's first-day ecosystem partner, along with Fireblocks, Kraken, Ledger and MetaMask, responsible for hosting and connectivity.

Functions and Automation become CRE
Functions and Automation have officially migrated from a stand-alone service to the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) workflow. According to the Chainlink Developer Update, the goals are:
- Unified developer experience
- Reduce integration friction
- Reduce operating costs at the network economy level
Agreements that have been upgraded to CRE include:
- Aave
- Polymarket
- Sky (formerly MakerDAO)
- Opinion Labs
This is not just DeFi's story. DTCC's Collateral AppChain-a shared infrastructure platform used to modernize collateral liquidity-has separately confirmed that it runs on CRE to drive automated qualification review, valuation and settlement workflows. This is an organization-level verification point tied to the DeFi adoption list.
