Summary
An early Ethereum ICO giant whale transferred 3,510.42 MKRs (worth approximately US$4.41 million), ending a nearly seven-year silence, but no sales have been confirmed. Blockchain records show that these MKRs are only transferred between private addresses, so asset custody restructuring and portfolio adjustments may have been one of the reasons for the transfer. Ethereum's current trading price is close to $1913, with the $1920 - 2000 range constituting resistance, while $1875 and $1800 remain important support levels.
After seven years of silence, early Ethereum ICO participants transfer MKRs
An early Ethereum ICO participant transferred approximately 3,510.42 MKRs worth approximately US$4.41 million, ending a seven-year period of inactivity. The investor was one of the earliest identifiable holders of Ethereum, initially accumulating 40,000 ETH during the 2015 online ICO. According to online records, this wallet activity involves Maker tokens rather than Ethereum. The investor purchased a total of 7,020.84 MKRs between 2018 and 2019, with an average purchase price of approximately US$828.92. The original cost of the entire position is close to US$5.81 million.
The giant whale moved half of his positions to another address, putting previously dormant positions back into active circulation. Based on current market prices, the 3,510.42 MKRs transferred brought in unrealized profits of approximately US$1.51 million. It is worth noting that blockchain records do not show that these tokens entered cryptocurrency exchanges, but only moved between private addresses. This distinction is crucial because deposits on an exchange can imply potential intent to sell, while private transfers can serve a variety of different purposes.
Giant whale's next MKR move may reveal its intentions
Large cryptocurrency holders sometimes move assets between wallets for reasons such as custody changes, security management or broader portfolio restructurings. Therefore, the latest transaction does not prove that the Ethereum ICO giant whale has begun to sell its long-held Maker positions. Still, the seven-year inactivity made the move remarkable, especially because another subsequent move could provide stronger clues to the investor's strategy. If the tokens are eventually deposited on an exchange, expectations for profit-taking may increase; if private transfers are made again, evidence of selling pressure will be greatly reduced.
Ethereum faces key resistance near US$2000
Ethereum, meanwhile, is trading at around $1913, and buyers are trying to strengthen their rebound from the $1550 region of previous declines. ETH is still above the short-term moving averages around $1874 and $1802, but resistance around $1923 constitutes an important technical barrier. In addition, Ethereum's daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) is close to 56, with momentum remaining above the neutral zone, but not overbought. The $1920 to $2000 range is an important resistance area that could determine whether Ethereum can continue a broader recovery.
If a breakthrough of US$2000 is confirmed, the long-term moving average around US$2145 will become the next technical obstacle. Conversely, if it is rejected near the current resistance level and selling pressure strengthens, support levels near $1875 and $1800 may be exposed. Currently, the giant whale's $4.41 million MKR transfer confirmed its re-activation, but did not provide direct evidence that it was being liquidated. The destination of any subsequent MKR transfers will help clarify whether the investor is restructuring assets or preparing to realize profits from long-term holdings.
