Core DAO's native token,$CORE, has rebounded sharply by about 17% in the past seven days after a long period of weakness. This trend is in sync with the overall rise in the cryptocurrency market, providing some relief to those holders who have watched the tokens continue to fall in recent months.
A platform built around Bitcoin's role in DeFi
Price movements remind people of the underlying narrative that underpins $CORE's attention.
The core blockchain is at the forefront of Bitcoin's DeFi transformation and is the leading platform for Bitcoin revenue and DeFi applications. The core proposition is simple: Bitcoin has traditionally lacked the ability to fully participate in the world of decentralized applications and smart contracts, and Core is a layer designed to introduce Bitcoin into the space.
Core claims to have the largest Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem, with a total locked value (TVL) of more than US$800 million, guaranteed by 76% of Bitcoin computing power. The network has more than 125 decentralized applications where Bitcoin holders can gain borrowing, trading and revenue opportunities.
The basis for all this is Core's Satoshi Nakamoto enhanced consensus mechanism, a three-party security model that leverages Bitcoin miners, Bitcoin pledgers, and CORE pledgers.
Broader ecosystem ambitions
CORE operates in the highly competitive Bitcoin Layer-2 and DeFi (BTCfi) spaces, and its unique Nakamoto Satoshi enhances consensus and focus on Bitcoin's earnings, allowing it to capture value as the BTCfi narrative gains further traction. On the institutional side, BitGo joined as a verification node in June 2025, a positive sign of wider adoption.
Looking ahead, Core contributors predict that the number of bitcoins in DeFi on the bitcoin-native chain may exceed the number of bitcoins in DeFi on the Ethereum-based chain, a milestone that will significantly increase the visibility of platforms like Core.
For now, the weekly price surge is a welcome development for the community. Questions remain about the long-term trend of tokens, but the recent rally at least suggests a renewed interest among traders who align with BTCFi's arguments.
