TRX TRON DAO launches GreatVoyage v4.8.2 (Pyrrho) mandatory upgrade
TRON DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization that manages the TRON blockchain, has launched GreatVoyage v4.8.2 (Pyrrho) as a mandatory upgrade. This network upgrade mainly focuses on enhancing Ethereum compatibility, protocol security and improving node operations. According to the official announcement of TRON DAO, all node operators need to complete upgrades before August 16, 2026 to avoid disruption of blockchain synchronization. In addition, TRON recommends that operators using event plug-ins upgrade them to version 3.0.0 before installing dedicated node software.
Upgrade Focus: Strengthen Ethereum compatibility
One of the key elements of this GreatVoyage v4.8.2 upgrade is close alignment with Ethereum's Osaka and Pectra upgrades. TVM now supports computing leading zeroes (CLZ) opcodes and introduces Secp256r1 signature verification, making it compatible with the latest authentication mechanisms such as Apple Secure Enclave, WebAuthn, and Android Keystore. In addition, this version enhances MODEXP pre-compilation capabilities by integrating input restrictions, standardized signature verification, and update pricing, allowing developers to build more efficient decentralized applications while maintaining compatibility with the robust Ethereum standard.
Protocol security and performance optimization
The upgrade also strengthens the TRON core protocol by introducing TIP-2935, achieving seamless storage of historical block hashes. This feature is particularly beneficial for stateless users and Layer 2 solutions, while improving interoperability with advanced Ethereum-based networks. Other protocol optimizations include safer rollback window calculations through BigInteger, enhanced calldata verification, improved TVM execution protection mechanisms, and adjustable time limits for consistent contract calls. These changes are expected to improve ecosystem security, long-term scalability and execution reliability.
Improving network reliability and performance
According to TRON DAO, GreatVoyage v4.8.2 significantly improves node performance and operational efficiency. In addition, TRON has modernized the API layer of this release and replaced the fastjson library with Jackson, thereby enhancing security and ensuring compatibility with existing integrations. This update also brings improved JSON-RPC compatibility. Ultimately, this release demonstrates TRON's leadership in infrastructure upgrades, committed to improving security, operational reliability, compatibility with the evolving Ethereum network, and the developer experience.
