Tokenized asset expert Ondo Finance abandoned its traditional tier 1 blockchain plan and moved to a private transaction network built for institutional speed and confidentiality.
The company's decision, announced on Tuesday, means one of the largest issuers in the field has concluded that public blockchain is not the right place to actually match transactions.
In its February 2025 vision, Ondo Finance planned to launch a product called Ondo Chain, a blockchain for institutional finance and tokenized real-world assets. But after building its new perpetual contract platform, Ondo Perps, the company said traditional blockchain is not the best tool for meeting the speed and privacy needed for institutional transactions.
