Chainlink cooperates with the U.S. Department of Commerce to directly link macroeconomic data.

Chainlink has reached a cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce to directly transfer verified macroeconomic data to decentralized ledgers, marking an important step forward in the integration of government statistics and blockchain infrastructure.

Federal Data Landing Chain

The new Chainlink data source takes data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and uploads it to cover real gross domestic product (GDP), personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index, and actual final sales to domestic private buyers. The latest report shows that real GDP is 1.5%, and the PCE price index is 3.7%, providing LINK-based infrastructure support for automated treasury rebalancing and institutional credit pricing.

The U.S. government has linked six data points through Chainlink, with data updated monthly or quarterly, and is initially available in ten blockchain ecosystems: Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Ethereum, Linea, Optimism, Sonic, and ZKsync. The plan also involves Pyth Network, and both oracle providers have confirmed that they are working with the Ministry of Commerce to bring BEA data online.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the model could be extended to other U.S. institutions. He pointed out that the Ministry of Commerce intends to extend this blockchain data distribution model to the entire government.

Unlock institutions and DeFi application scenarios

The integration eliminates delays between federal data release and market response. By linking official statistics, smart contracts can respond to macroeconomic changes without relying on intermediaries or manual data input.

Chainlink said that uploading data can unlock multiple application scenarios, including automated trading strategies, enhanced combinability of tokenized assets, inflation-linked products, perpetual futures markets, real-time forecasting markets, and DeFi protocol risk management based on macroeconomic factors.

By uploading macroeconomic data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Chainlink demonstrates how a network of trusted oracles can serve as critical infrastructure connecting public institutions and blockchain markets, while supporting compliance and regulatory progress while unleashing new innovations.

As an industry-standard oracle platform, Chainlink provides protocols and standards that enable hundreds of DeFi applications on dozens of blockchains to obtain critical financial data, thereby ensuring security of tens of billions of dollars in DeFi's total lock-in value (TVL). There are currently more than 2400 integration cases, including Aave, Lido, Compound and GMX.
