Gray scale's second-quarter position adjustment: BNB became the largest position, and institutions preferred to shift to the L1 public chain.
Gray scale's second-quarter position adjustment sent a clear signal: institutions 'confidence in the first-level public chain is shifting. The company tilted its smart contract funds sharply towards BNB, giving the token a 30.6% weighting, while Ethereum (29.47%) and Solana (29.15%) took a back seat. According to initial reports, this data clearly points out the core of the position adjustment action.
Institutional gatekeepers in the cryptocurrency space will not make such adjustments easily. Gray's single asset and diversified funds are regarded by the market as reference indicators for professional capital to judge the long-term value, even though their actual capital inflows are still limited compared to the size of the ETF. Putting BNB above Ethereum and Solana means that the transfer committee believes that the developer appeal, fee generation activities, and token economics related to the Binance chain are enough to outweigh existing public chains and high-throughput challengers. This change also occurs against the backdrop of the continued increase in developer participation in BNB Chain-as recent observations of blockchain developer activity show, BNB Chain, like Ethereum and Polygon, is often at the forefront.
Minor adjustments in DeFi and AI funds
Smart contract funds are not the only products undergoing adjustments. Gray DeFi funds reduced UNI's holdings during the review period, but Uniswap still dominated with a weight of 34.16%. At the same time, the decentralized AI fund reduced NEAR allocation, but the agreement still stayed ahead with a weight of 31.35%. These two adjustments are not drastic, but indicate that Gray is conducting an orderly optimization rather than losing confidence in the relevant assets.
DeFi Fund's decision to cut UNI while still holding it as its largest position is consistent with the main narrative provided by liquidity in the sector. Uniswap remains the core venue for on-chain transactions, and its governance tokens reflect this status. Putting NEAR at the top of AI-themed funds is in line with the view that decentralized computing-the core developer activity in AI-oriented blockchain-is opening up a capital allocation category independent of the pure DeFi strategy.
Signal released by new weights
For the market, the increase in BNB weights is a more influential change. It breaks the default assumption that "smart contract funds will flow smoothly from Ethereum to Solana or other high-performance alternatives." By elevating BNB's status, Gray is effectively betting that a chain that is deeply integrated with exchanges, has a mature DeFi ecosystem, and an aggressive fee destruction mechanism can attract institutional interest, even if the centralized origin of its tokens remains controversial.
Institutions 'interest in the first level of public chains beyond Ethereum is not news. As early as this cycle, Sui attracted attention due to the promotion of institutional pledges and financial technology integration. But BNB's replacement of Ethereum and Solana at the top of a multi-asset fund is a signal of a different nature-which makes more sense for allocators who consider basket exposure rather than single asset transactions.
What is uncertain is whether this weight can be sustained. Quarterly relocations could also be quickly reversed; the next review could recalibrate funds based on new fee data, regulatory developments or changes in the dominance of on-chain stablecoins. In addition, a higher weight means a larger allocation scale, but the gray disclosure does not split the actual dollar inflow, so no one except company insiders knows whether the position adjustment involves new funds or is just a mechanical redistribution of weights. Still, as a quarterly snapshot, the numbers cannot be ignored: BNB is currently the fund's biggest bet, and this adjustment will be tested when it is reviewed in the third quarter.
