Circle and Coinbase automatically renew their contracts, and USDC cooperation extends to 2029

Circle's USDC partnership with Coinbase is automatically renewed until 2029

Circle's commercial partnership with Coinbase has been extended until 2029 after activating the automatic three-year renewal clause, further consolidating one of the most core stablecoin collaborations in the cryptocurrency market. The confirmation was announced during Circle's second quarter 2026 earnings conference call, where Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Fox-Geen elaborated on the company's long-term goals.

stablecoin cooperation enters a new stage

Starting from August 2023, Circle has become the exclusive issuer and operator of USD Coin (USDC) after ending the Centre Consortium with Coinbase. Under the arrangement, Coinbase holds a minority stake in Circle and continues to receive a share of revenue generated from USDC reserves. Executives said the renewed agreement further positions Coinbase and Circle's USDC partnership as a core driver of the companies 'stablecoin strategies.

Circle emphasized that the updated agreement does not limit opportunities for other distribution agreements in the future. The company reports that more than 150 partners have distributed USDC through exchanges, wallets, payment solutions and various financial applications. USDC supply reached US$73.3 billion in the second quarter, a 19% increase from the same period last year. Coinbase currently holds approximately 30% of the USDC in circulation, underscoring the exchange's continued influence, even as Circle is expanding its distribution network. In a market where stablecoin adoption is increasing, real-time information is crucial to tracking trends. Some apps that do not require a registered account can combine a user's cryptocurrency portfolio with real-time price updates, multi-currency management, and news filtering for specific positions. Investors can stay ahead by activating instant price alerts and monitoring key macroeconomic data, including Federal Reserve interest rates and emerging altcoin listings.

Circle pointed out that USDC's global distribution network now exceeds 150 partners, reflecting both increased adoption rates and unrestricted flexibility to build future partnerships after renewing its agreement with Coinbase.

Financial Performance and Regulatory Trends

Circle's total revenue and reserve income increased 7% year-on-year to $701 million. However, as yields fell and company earnings growth was limited, analysts 'eyes have shifted from liquidity statistics to profitability. JPMorgan expressed concern that as Circle expands its network, especially after integrating with certain ecosystems, profit margins could narrow as reserve gains need to be shared with more partners. This trend highlights the challenges Circle faces in expanding distribution while maintaining financial performance.

Fox-Geen explained that Circle prioritizes capital retention over periodic dividends and aims to strengthen its balance sheet and reinvest in core products and infrastructure to prepare for future changes in the stablecoin industry. Circle's decision not to adopt a quarterly dividend policy is part of its strategy to enhance stability and support growth. The company recently received regulatory approval to form Circle National Trust, which aims to strengthen regulated custody services. At the same time, the GENIUS Act will introduce comprehensive regulatory regulations for stablecoins in the United States, covering custody, auditing, reserves and supervision.

Coinbase's USDC Partnership Renewal with Circle provides clarity to institutions and retail market participants concerned about stablecoin stability and regulatory transparency. As U.S. stablecoin rules continue to evolve, investors are expected to pay close attention to USDC adoption, profitability, compliance costs, and strategy execution.
