Coinbase is adapting the Base app to transform it into a multi-chain trading platform that supports assets across multiple blockchain networks under new leadership.
Jordan Fish has now taken over Base applications, while Jesse Pollak is focusing on expanding Base's blockchain infrastructure and the development of decentralized finance.
Base's daily trading volume exceeds US$1 billion, while Coinbase is expanding its forecast markets and perpetual contracts businesses across ecosystems.
Coinbase upgrades its Base application positioning from a single blockchain to a multi-chain trading platform
Coinbase is repositioning its Base application so that it is no longer limited to its own blockchain, but extends its crypto transaction ambitions to multiple blockchain networks. Base founder Jesse Pollak explained in a podcast that the app will prioritize developing a wider range of trading capabilities rather than just driving the growth of Base's single chain. Jordan "Cobie" Fish took over the leadership of the Base application after Coinbase acquired crypto funding platform Echo.
Pollak said Fish will build the strongest trading products, while Base will compete through technology, liquidity and execution quality. In addition, Pollak pointed out that blockchain must gain status based on its own performance, rather than relying on special treatment within the Coinbase ecosystem. He added that this strategy can create greater motivation for network optimization services.
Coinbase separates apps from Base blockchain strategies
According to Pollak, the Base app now allows users to trade assets in almost all major crypto ecosystems. At the same time, Coinbase is also expanding its product line and introducing predictive markets and perpetual contracts to enhance platform capabilities.
In addition to adding new features, the company also hopes to lower the threshold for newcomers to enter digital asset trading. Pollak said that as applications move beyond the Base ecosystem, reducing complexity remains an important goal.
At the same time, Pollak has turned its attention to the development of the Base blockchain itself. He said that the demand for tokenization, payments, decentralized financial and transaction infrastructure has grown significantly, requiring dedicated leadership to be responsible for network-side work.
In addition, Pollak revealed that the value of decentralized financial assets currently locked in by Base is close to US$5 billion. The blockchain's daily transaction volume also exceeds US$1 billion, reflecting growth in activity within its ecosystem.
Competition has become increasingly fierce as companies such as Robinhood and Stripe invest in blockchain infrastructure. But Pollak believes that the entry of these companies just confirms that more financial services are moving up the chain, rather than a threat to Base's status.
He added that every blockchain platform must compete by providing better liquidity, execution quality and infrastructure. Therefore, Base blockchain will compete on its own strength, while applications will serve users on multiple networks.
Pollak welcomes intensified competition in the financial sector in the chain
Pollak believes that despite increasing institutional engagement, the digital asset industry is still in its early stages. He pointed out that the overall market space is large enough for multiple companies to expand at the same time.
In addition, he said that Coinbase's long-term goal is not just to support a single blockchain. Instead, the company wants the Base app to be a convenient entry point for trading digital assets, no matter what underlying network the assets are based on.
Pollak said that as the Base application and Base blockchain products mature, Coinbase is separating the responsibilities of the two. Fish will focus on building a multi-chain trading platform, while Pollak will focus on strengthening blockchain infrastructure to cope with accelerating competition in the on-chain financial sector.
