Circle introduces native USDC to OKX's X Layer network

Circle's native $USDC stablecoin and its Cross-Chain Transport Protocol (CCTP) are now officially launched on the X Layer of the Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by OKX. This integration allows X Layer to directly access a fully regulated, dollar-backed stablecoin, eliminating the need to rely on an encapsulated or bridged version of the USDC.

According to Circle, CCTP works by destroying USDC on the source chain and casting a new native USDC on the target chain. The entire process does not involve packaging representations, locking vaults or third-party bridging custodians. For users and protocols on the X Layer, this means that the regulatory status of the native USDC is exactly the same as the USDC on any other supported network.

This launch allows DeFi applications and treasury management across 36 chains to achieve round-the-clock regulated settlement without the counterparty risks typically associated with bridging tokens.

Circle reported that as of December 2025, the cumulative transaction volume processed by CCTP has reached US$126 billion, reflecting the increasingly important role of the agreement as a core cross-chain infrastructure.

Empowering x402 network and machine payments

In addition to standard DeFi and treasury management use cases, X Layer integration is designed to support x402 networks-an emerging machine-to-machine and HTTP-native payment standard. By providing native USDC liquidity on the X Layer, the launch aims to support automated commerce and programmatic payment processes that require a stable, interoperable settlement layer.

This move continues Circle's broad strategy of expanding CCTP in the high-performance blockchain ecosystem.

CCTP V2 was released in March 2025 and adds a fast transfer function that completes settlement in approximately 8 to 20 seconds, programmable post-transfer hooks, and Solana support. The protocol currently connects more than 13 main network chains, and X Layer is the latest member to join the network.
