Hyperion DeFi earns $31 million, HYPE attracts attention amid the downturn in the crypto market

Hyperion DeFi's second-quarter net profit hit a record $31 million

On August 12, as the first company built on Hyperliquid and listed in the United States, Hyperion DeFi announced its second-quarter net profit of $31 million. That figure more than tripled the first-quarter profit of $8.8 million.

Hyperion attributed the surge in net profit to the higher valuation of its HYPE assets, which have reached US$133 million, which shows investors how the crypto asset treasury strategy works during a period of relatively low market sentiment.

Record for second consecutive quarter

Hyperion's profit of $31 million was its second consecutive quarter record, compared with a loss of nearly $9 million in the same period last year. The company also reported adjusted EBITDA of $53.7 million. Its share price rose about 5% in after-hours trading after the earnings report was announced.

The biggest driving force comes from its HYPE treasury. As of the end of June, Hyperion held approximately 2 million HYPEs worth $133 million, compared with just $71 million three months ago.

This also provides investors with a good indicator of HYPE exposure in stocks. As of May 13, the company's outstanding shares were 15.16 million shares, corresponding to 2 million HYPEs, or 0.13 HYPEs per share. Based on a valuation of US$133 million, the value of each HYPE is approximately US$8.78. This is not a net asset value calculation, but an effective way to assess how HYPE prices affect Hyperion stock support.

Going against the industry's decline

Hyperion's performance was particularly prominent as the entire crypto market took a hit in the second quarter. According to CoinGecko data, the overall crypto market value fell 12.6% to US$2.1 trillion, and the average daily trading volume fell 20.9%.

However, derivatives activity has shown greater resilience. Trading volume on the top ten centralized perpetual contract exchanges was US$12.7 trillion this quarter, down 10%, while Hyperliquid continued to expand its share in the on-chain derivatives sector. In the first four months of 2026, the average monthly transaction volume of the perpetual decentralized exchange was US$611.57 billion, of which Hyperliquid handled US$190.28 billion in April alone.

Hyperliquid is also increasingly becoming a bridge connecting encryption and traditional finance. CoinGecko found that from January 2025 to May 2026, it processed $272.39 billion in TradFi perpetual contract transactions.

"We have redefined what a digital asset treasury means," said Hyunsu Jung, CEO of Hyperion, pointing to the company's larger HYPE holdings, new Hyperliquid business and lower costs.

Leasing treasury assets through HAUS

Hyperion is also trying to make its HYPE assets more useful than just staying on the balance sheet.

The company has allocated a total of 500,000 HYPEs to Entropy for the HIP-3 market and another 500,000 HYPEs to Skew Technologies for the HIP-4 results market. According to Hyperliquid's HIP-3 system, market deployers need to hold and pledge 500,000 HYPEs in their wallets. Hyperion will provide the necessary funds and use it to generate equity and royalty income.

Following the termination of USDH, Hyperion terminated its previous HAUS (Hype Asset Usage Service) agreements with Native Markets and Felix. This freed up 800,000 HYPEs for redeployment. The company said it has allocated 1 million HYPEs to HIP-3 and HIP-4 projects since June.

Why tokens become the core of performance drivers

The relationship between HYPE and Hyperliquid is the key to investment logic. In March, Coinbase Institutional noted that 97% of the fees arising from the agreement were used to repurchase HYPE. In a subsequent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on May 19, an update showed that 99% of the fees arising from the agreement have now been transferred to the aid fund, which used the funds to purchase and destroy HYPE.

This creates a strong but two-sided relationship: active trading activity generates fees, which are used to purchase HYPE, and rising HYPE prices increase the value of Hyperion's treasury. When currency prices fall, the mechanism works in reverse.

According to CoinMarketCap data, as of August 13, HYPE prices were approximately US$56.50, up 0.64% in the past week.

Hyperion's record quarter highlights both the potential benefits and risks of HYPE's treasury model: When Hyperliquid grows and HYPE rises, the company has the opportunity to make huge profits, but its performance is highly dependent on the future direction of the tokens and the market it supports.
