Ondo Finance connects Japan with global online finance

Ondo Finance and SBI Group have entered into a strategic partnership to bring Japan's real-world assets online.

This is one of the most important measures to date to connect Japan's domestic capital market with the global tokenized economy. Through this cooperation, the two parties will promote the tokenization and distribution of Japanese assets on the chain, and the relevant tokenization tools will be issued by Ondo Global Markets (BVI) Limited.

Cooperation content

Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate in the following aspects: SBI's $JPYSC stablecoins will serve as the main settlement and collateral layer for Ondo's tokenized assets, and distribution will cover the SBI Group's broader ecosystem. The two sides stated that the goal is to build a bridge between Japan's capital market and the global tokenized economy, expand global investors 'access to Japanese assets, and lay the foundation for yen-based on-chain transactions.

$JPYSC itself is a relatively new tool. SBI launched the stablecoin on June 24, 2026. It is Japan's first yen stablecoin endorsed by Trust Bank. It is issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and distributed through SBI VC Trade. The key is that, unlike early Japanese stablecoins,$JPYSC does not have a trading cap of 1 million yen, so it is suitable for institutional-level settlement and tokenized asset trading.

The importance of cooperation

Ondo's cooperation with SBI is part of SBI's broader and accelerated push to build a comprehensive chain financial ecosystem in Japan. In recent months, the group has partnered with the Solana Foundation to develop on-chain infrastructure, participated in the $175 million financing round of DeFi loan agreement Morpho, and invested $125 million in DeFi risk management platform Gauntlet. In addition, SBI also completed a proof-of-concept with DigiFT and Startale Group separately to demonstrate $JPYSC-based tokenized securities settlement and automated on-chain dividend distribution.

For Ondo, this cooperation gives it direct access to one of Asia's largest and most mature financial distribution networks. For Japan, this marks another step towards the country's stated goal of becoming Asia's leading online financial center-its regulatory framework is already ahead of many of its Western counterparts.

Integrating Ondo's institutional-level tokenization engine into Japan's financial infrastructure and settling in regulated yen stablecoins is a concrete attempt to migrate Japanese stocks and debt instruments on a large scale onto the chain for the first time.
