On July 16, when the prices of most crypto assets fell,$ONDO bucked the trend and rose. The token has risen nearly 16% in the past 24 hours to approximately US$0.37, hitting the top edge of the day's trading range.
The rise was accompanied by a sharp increase in trading activity. ONDO's 24-hour trading volume was approximately US$289.6 million, an increase of more than 230%, making it the most prominent asset of the day.
The driving force behind the rise
The catalyst is very clear.@ Ondo Finance has launched the first batch of tokenized stock representatives based on DTC tokenized interests generated through DTCC tokenization services and relying on the DTC underlying infrastructure that provides clearing and settlement for the vast majority of securities transactions in the United States. These tokenized interests have the same CUSIP code and trading code as the underlying securities and can be delivered into the wallets of DTC participants.
In other words, this is not a workaround or a synthetic agent, but an extension of Wall Street's actual post-trade settlement system on the chain. The underlying assets include Circle's publicly traded shares (CRCL) and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF trust (SPY), which are presented on the chain in the form of CRCLon and SPYon respectively-that is, Ondo stock tokens fully endorsed by the corresponding securities. Ondo achieved this through Alpaca Markets as a DTC participant.
Ondo, along with more than a dozen leading traditional financial and DeFi companies, including BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange, is participating in DTCC's largest tokenization program to date. On July 15, 2026, DTCC completed its first real-time production transaction using a tokenized version of assets held by DTC, calling it the largest tokenized production event in terms of asset breadth, application scenarios and number of participants.
What happens next for $ONDO
Securities held by DTC can be converted between traditional and tokenized forms, providing greater flexibility, access to new liquidity pools, and enhanced digital asset capabilities. As DTCC's tokenization service is planned to continue later this year, Ondo expects to expand the model to make tokenized shares available to investors on the chain through its global network of exchanges, wallets and DeFi platform partners.
From a technical perspective, the situation is more complicated. The token is currently trading near the upper edge of the recent weekly range, and the latest round of gains has put its price back on the much-watched 100-day exponential moving average, but still below the 200-day exponential moving average. Volume trends and overall price movements have raised questions about whether it can break through $0.40 or higher.
For traders, the key question for the rest of the week is: Can $ONDO hold on to this breakthrough, or is it just a brief, news-driven rise and then a pullback?
