SBI Holdings completes majority stake acquisition of Coinhako
SBI Holdings has successfully acquired a majority stake in Coinhako after obtaining approval from Singapore regulators. The deal strengthens the Japanese financial group's digital asset presence in Southeast Asia. Coinhako will operate as a consolidated subsidiary of SBI Holdings starting from the completion of the transaction on July 16.
Regulatory approval helps smooth completion of Coinhako acquisition
The Monetary Authority of Singapore approved the acquisition before the transaction was completed. SBI Holdings, through its Singapore investment subsidiary SBI Ventures Asset Pte. Ltd. provides funds for transactions. In addition, the group purchased shares from several existing investors in Coinhako. Neither party disclosed the amount of investment, the proportion of equity acquired or Coinhako's valuation. However, with its majority stake, the Japanese financial group has gained control of the exchange's operations. Coinhako will retain its Singapore headquarters while being included in SBI Holdings 'consolidated financial network.
Coinhako has been approved by Hako Technology Pte. Ltd. operates and entered the Singapore cryptocurrency market in 2014. The company holds a large payment institution license issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Its affiliated company Alpha Hako Ltd. has also completed regulatory registration in The British Virgin Islands.
Singapore Exchange expands regional cryptocurrency network
SBI Holdings plans to integrate Coinhako users with its financial services and international digital asset businesses. Singapore has a mature regulatory system and has direct access to Southeast Asia's rapidly expanding cryptocurrency market. Coinhako also provides compliant infrastructure, local expertise and existing regional distribution networks. Chairman and President Yoshitaka Kitao linked the acquisition to plans to connect exchanges in multiple countries. The proposed network is expected to support cross-border transactions and reduce restrictions imposed by different national currencies. SBI Holdings expects Coinhako to occupy a central position in this international exchange structure.
The two companies plan to launch services involving stablecoins, tokenized assets, cross-border transactions and on-chain finance. Coinhako co-founder Liu Yuxiang said the deal was a new stage for the company after a decade of development in Singapore. The exchange will receive business support from SBI Holdings in the banking, securities, investment and digital assets sectors.
Tokenized products help strategic layout in Asia
SBI Holdings is also working with blockchain company Startale to develop the yen-backed stablecoin JPYSC. The group may connect the stablecoin to Coinhako's services and existing regional user networks. This integration is expected to support payments, settlements, and transactions involving tokenized financial instruments. In addition, SBI Holdings has partnered with Ondo to distribute tokenized investment products through its customer network. On the other hand, SBI Global Asset Management has partnered with regulated real-world asset exchange DigiFT to launch JX tokens. This Solana-based product provides qualified investors with a channel to invest in Japanese high-dividend stock strategies.
Coinhako has added a Singapore regulated platform to SBI Holdings 'expanding digital asset infrastructure in Asia. The exchange complements the group's stablecoin development and its recently launched tokenized investment products. SBI Holdings now controls a regional portal connecting Singapore users with its broader financial network.
