Morpho Midnight will be gradually launched, prioritizing security and protocol stability.
Morpho is about to publicly release its new online lending agreement, Morpho Midnight, within days, after months of testing. According to Paul Frambot, co-founder and CEO of Morpho, the launch will start with limited functionality and participation to ensure security, while introducing a market-based lending model. Base builder Jesse Pollak also commented: "Morpho Midnight will be a big deal."
Limited functionality in the early days of launch
Frabot said Morpho Midnight shifted responsibility for risk, loan terms and interest rates from the agreement itself to the market. He pointed out that earlier lending agreements dealt with these functions directly, while Morpho Blue left risk management to treasury managers. However, Midnight has expanded this approach further, allowing market participants to decide on their own risks, terms and pricing. Frambot said that the target users of this architecture are institutional users and consumer financial technology companies entering the on-chain lending space.
Security remains the top priority of the project during launch. As a result, Frambot said Morpho completed months of reviews, formal verifications, multiple audits and an audit competition before deployment. Even so, the agreement will gradually come online. Initially, users will not be able to use automatic scrolling, callbacks, cross-chain support, vault adapters, cross-collateral features, or advanced routing.
Initial market focus on Base Network
The launch will first establish a single market on the Base network. According to Frabot, the launch market will use the existing cbBTC/USDC Morpho Blue market and offer multiple loan terms. In the early stages, participation will be limited to direct lenders and borrowers. In addition, although Morpho Vaults provides available liquidity, the vault adapter will not come online immediately. However, the multi-market bidding feature will be available from day one. This feature allows users to provide liquidity across multiple independent markets without fragmentation.
More features will be introduced after launch
Frabot said Morpho plans to expand Midnight with more markets, mortgage assets, loan assets and blockchain networks. Future updates also include portfolio markets, cross-collateral lending and treasury adapters. The roadmap further covers automatic scrolling, callbacks, APIs, SDKs, secondary markets and programmable gating. According to Frabot, as the protocol continues to be launched, these features will be gradually launched after launch.
