AERO traded at around $0.45, down nearly 7% in 24 hours and more than 15% in the past week. Binance has opened spot trading for AERO and marked it with a "Seed Tag", which is the exchange's identification for high-risk newly listed tokens. The four-hour RSI for the token has dropped to 32.51, close to but not yet below the oversold threshold. AERO is still below its 20-cycle moving average on the four-hour chart.
Listing experienced selling pressure rather than new demand
Aerodrome Finance's AERO token fell to US$0.4527 on July 18, extending its decline, falling more than 15% in the past week, despite Binance's announcement the day before that a spot listing had been completed. The exchange has opened AERO/USDT, AERO/USDC and AERO/TRY trading pairs and marked them with a "seed label", which is Binance's identification of newly listed tokens with abnormally high volatility risks. The listing coincides with a broader market sell-off. A four-hour chart of AERO on Coinbase shows prices below the 20-cycle moving average, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) falling to 32.51.
Binan issued a listing announcement at 07:30 UTC on July 17. Spot trading was originally scheduled to open on the same day, but the actual start time was several hours later than originally planned. The announcement did not mention the listing fee and set aside an additional US$100,000 USDC for future marketing activities related to the token. Traders who hold AERO on Binance Alpha, the exchange's pre-listing platform, have a certain period of time to transfer their positions to spot accounts before AERO is completely removed from Alpha.
Seed labeling is not permanent; it is equivalent to a threshold. Binance requires traders to pass a risk awareness test every 90 days before they can continue trading any asset with a seed label, and a warning banner will be displayed on the trading page until the label is removed. Exchanges apply such tags to tokens that they believe are newer or less liquid than already listed items. Although AERO has accumulated a considerable historical record on the Base network, it still fits this description.
Exchange listings usually attract a wave of buying interest as new traders gain trading rights on the token for the first time. But AERO did not welcome this wave of craze. It continued to fall during the listing window, consistent with the downturn in the overall cryptocurrency market, as geopolitical tensions during the week and congressional hearings on the CLARITY Act curbed risk appetite.
How the four-hour chart explains selling pressure
The moving average tracks the average of closing prices over a specific period. When the current price is below the average, the average itself is a rough indicator of recent seller dominance. The 20-cycle moving average on the AERO four-hour chart is at $0.489, well above the current price of $0.452. This gap suggests that the downward trend has continued for multiple cycles rather than a single negative line.
The RSI (Relative Strength Index) measures the speed and magnitude of price movements in one direction over the past 14 cycles and ranges from 0 to 100. A reading below 30 usually signals that the asset has fallen fast and deep enough that traders are starting to focus on whether selling pressure has run out. AERO's RSI of 32.51 is just above that line. Although it has not yet been confirmed that selling pressure has been exhausted, it is very close and a rebound is not surprising.
Looking back at the earlier trend of the same chart, AERO tested the range of US$0.58 to US$0.60 twice, once at the end of June and the other at the beginning of July, but both times it fell back without an effective breakthrough. This is two rejections at the same resistance level, followed by the current trend back to the low of $0.40. AERO has now failed to hold the area twice.
DeFi data behind prices
Aerodrome is the largest decentralized exchange on Base (Coinbase's Layer-2 network), and its size provides fundamental support for price movements that cannot be presented alone in charts. The agreement processes approximately 61% of decentralized exchange trading volume on Base, generates a cumulative fee of more than $520 million, and allocates all transaction fees to holders who lock their tokens into veAERO. veAERO is a vote-locked version of AERO that gives the holder governance rights and a share of agreement revenue. Liquidity providers have begun turning to new anti-MEV pools in May, aiming to reduce the value extracted by pre-emptive trading robots. Usage continues to grow, but token prices have not followed suit.
What changes will AERO holders face next
Dromos Labs, the team behind Aerodrome, is merging the agreement with its sister exchange on Optimism, Velodrome, to form a cross-chain system called Aero. The plan was launched in July and will be extended to the Ethereum main network and Circle's Arc chain, while also introducing a "predictive allocation" mechanism that allocates incentives based on expected future needs rather than the existing weekly voting process for AERO holders.
Binance's seed label is also not permanently valid. The exchange requires that the test be updated every 90 days, and the label can be removed after passing, opening the token to some Binance users who are currently unable to trade AERO.
