As the focus of DeFi construction shifts, Yearn, Aave and Gearbox have climbed up in Sanitation's p

Silent developer activity is often more telling than token prices.

During the week of horizontal consolidation of DeFi tokens, Sanction's revenue farming development rankings showed that Year Finance, Aave and Gearbox were among the top, while some established projects fell. The data comes from GitHub activity across project warehouses and reveals which teams are actually writing code, not just marketing.

Yearn Finance ($YFI) topped the list. Although it was marked as a neutral indicator, it remained stable from the previous month. Aave's Ethereum deployment rose to third place, improving its ranking by two places. Gearbox Protocol entered the top five with a sharp rise, indicating that its leveraged income strategy framework is actively developing. Yield Basis ($YB) has also emerged as a new face, further confirming that new mobility layer projects are gaining attention in the developer community.

Which projects are losing momentum

The other side of the rankings shows Katana ($KAT) slipped from second to fourth, while Beefy Finance ($BIFI) fell out of the top three. Alchemix ($ALCX) and SushiSwap are both ranked low in deployments on Ethereum and Arbitrum, with both declining since the last evaluation. Unitas Labs ($UP) also fell, and the agreement entered a lackluster period. These changes do not necessarily mean projects are abandoned, but in a market where revenue farmers are rapidly moving between coffers and aggregators, stagnant development can erode cognitive shares.

The ranking comes as revenue opportunities in the DeFi space are narrowing. As stablecoin lending rates moderate and ETH pledge yields remain flat, agreements that innovate in risk-adjusted yields or capital efficiency are more likely to capture liquidity. Development rankings reflect where these innovations may first emerge.

What can and cannot be explained by on-chain development data

Sanitation's methodology filters out shallow commits and focuses on core warehouse contributions. This makes the signal stronger than the original commit count, but it is still a lagging observation of engineering investment. The surge in activity may reflect bug fixes, security audits, or testing phases before the launch of the main network, and does not necessarily translate into user growth or token performance. For traders who follow these rankings, this data is best suited as a leading filter-highlighting items whose technical foundations are consolidating, even if prices have not yet caught up.

Aave and Yearn's leading position once again confirms that the multi-cycle DeFi protocol continues to invest in its code base. Some new entrants, such as Gearbox and Yield Basis, may signal that profitable farmers will find new mechanisms in the coming months. At the same time, the decline in SushiSwap and Alchemix has raised questions about how these agreement plans will retain development talent and mobility amid increased competition. As broader trends in developer activity in the crypto space suggest, continued construction is one of the few signals that can penetrate short-term noise.
