Zug, Switzerland, July 29, 2026-With upgrades for Casper 2.0 and x402 micropayments, csprUSD has become the settlement currency for AI agents trading on the Casper network.
Humans are now a minority on the Internet. According to Cloudflare, automated traffic accounts for 59.4% of all network requests, while humans account for only 40.6%. Amid growing automated traffic, AI agents are performing real work: calling APIs, retrieving data, booking services, and purchasing AI computing power. But there is one problem: the Internet itself does not provide a charging mechanism for them.
Every payment mechanism on the Internet is designed for humans. Credit card forms assume people enter; subscription services assume calendars and renewal decisions; wire transfers assume bankers and working days. AI agents neither have these conditions nor want them. It requires paying a fraction of a penny for an API call, getting an encrypted receipt, and then continuing execution, repeating thousands of times per hour.
This is exactly what the x402 protocol is trying to solve. That's why the Linux Foundation announced this week that the x402 Foundation is officially operational, with 40 member organizations, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Google, Coinbase, Circle, Stripe, AWS and Cloudflare. Casper is one of them, and unlike most members, Casper is not just planning agent payments, but is already making payments: an x402 facilitator has been launched on Casper's main network, allowing AI agents to pay for online services over a standard HTTP request/response cycle.
What the AI agent needs next is expendable dollars. Today, the Casper Association and Sarson Funds jointly announced that csprUSD-the U.S. dollar stablecoin originally developed and launched on Casper by Sarson Funds in 2024-is being upgraded to assume this role.
The upgraded csprUSD contract adds full compatibility with Casper 2.0 and implements CEP-3009, which is the standard Casper uses to authorize transfers. CEP-3009 allows token holders (whether humans or machines) to sign payment authorizations offline, and anyone can settle online. This is exactly the mechanism x402 payments rely on: the proxy signs the authorization in the HTTP header of its request, the facilitator settles according to the csprUSD contract, and then returns the paid resource. No account recharge, no session key, and no bank card binding. The upgraded contract will complete a new security audit before deployment, which will extend the Halborn audit that covers the original contract.
In addition, Casper's ProofLayer will be integrated into the deployment of csprUSD. ProofLayer is a modular attestation infrastructure that encrypts attestation off-chain data through on-chain receipts. It has been deployed in projects such as Parking Blox to prove the daily cash flow of U.S. parking facilities, and will be deployed when csprUSD launches its main network in the near future to prove U.S. dollar collateral, mints and redemptions.
With this upgrade, csprUSD becomes the standard stablecoin for the Casper ecosystem: the default stable settlement asset for apps, DeFi, and every AI agent that trades through the Casper x402 orbit. The centralized exchange listing of csprUSD has been confirmed, including trading pairs with other major stablecoins, thereby providing a channel for liquidity in and out of the tokens from the beginning.
AI agents expect to make thousands of micropayments a day, but on many networks, the cost of settling these transactions will soon exceed the value of the transaction itself. With the recent adoption of CEP-97, Casper has reduced the network's minimum transaction cost from 2.5 CSPR to just 0.1 CSPR, equivalent to a fraction of a cent. At this level, AI agents can pay one-tenth of a penny for an online service without network fees exceeding the payment itself, making true machine-to-machine micropayments economically feasible. Developers can now start building and testing these payment processes using the official x402 facilitator on the Casper Test Network.
"Every few decades, the Internet welcomes a new type of user, and business must rebuild for this," said Michael Steuer, president and chief technology officer of the Casper Institute. "The browser brought consumers, and we had credit card forms. Smartphones bring app stores and in-app purchases. Agents are becoming the main body of Internet traffic today, but they cannot fill out checkout pages, commit annual subscriptions, and send wire transfers. They need to be paid on request, done at machine speed, settled at stable value, and at negligible and predictable costs. CsprUSD on Casper is exactly that: a dollar that an agent can actually spend. Most of the Internet is not ready for this storm, and we are laying the track before it comes."
The upgraded csprUSD contract is expected to be available on Casper's main network later in the third quarter after testnet verification, security audits and regulatory compliance. Integration and liquidity details will be announced through Casper's official channels.
AI agents have arrived. Now, they are traded as independently of work.
About Casper
Casper Network (CSPR) is a Layer 1 proof-of-stake blockchain designed for regulated real-world assets and the machine economy. With deterministic transaction finality, a multi-virtual machine execution layer that supports WebAssembly and will soon support EVM smart contracts, and fixed-cost operations enforced at the protocol level, Casper provides the infrastructure for compliant asset tokenization, seamless consumer experience, and autonomous machine-to-machine commerce. The Casper Manifesto-the network's multi-year technology roadmap-advances nine coordinated protocol plans covering developer access, user experience, institutional compliance, privacy, micropayments and quantum security. The Casper Association is a non-profit organization headquartered in Zug, Switzerland that oversees protocol development and ecosystem development.
