PayPal is expanding PYUSD, autonomous AI payments and biometric authentication as part of its long-term cryptocurrency strategy.
Despite facing a $81 million crypto-related loss, PayPal exceeded revenue estimates and raised its full-year profit outlook.
Kraken's support for PYUSD on Stellar Network strengthens PayPal's efforts to promote faster and lower-cost cross-border stablecoin payments.
PayPal executives are fully embracing the future, and this quarter the company has included stablecoins, autonomous AI-driven payments and biometric identity tools into its core strategy.
PYUSD stablecoin was launched in 2023 and now covers users in 70 markets around the world. Users can purchase, hold, send and receive PYUSD directly in their PayPal accounts and can transfer it to external wallets, CoinMarketCap reports. Merchants can get funds in minutes rather than waiting days.

PayPal reported a $81 million crypto loss while maintaining strong revenue in the second quarter
Against the backdrop of the development of stablecoins, PayPal reported second-quarter revenue of $8.68 billion, easily exceeding expectations. GAAP earnings per share were $1.26, slightly below the forecast of $1.28, while non-GAAP measures showed resilience. A $81 million non-GAAP adjustment related to cryptocurrency and strategic investment positions put pressure on performance, causing earnings to fall short of expectations. Despite this, core payments remain strong, reaching hundreds of billions of dollars.

Although earnings fell short of expectations, PayPal remains committed to expanding PYUSD, and the adoption of stablecoins in payments, wallets and cross-border transfers remains a key focus. Three months ago, PayPal warned that profits could fall this year. Now, the company has raised its full-year earnings per share guidance to $5.38. Although the board has not provided an update on Stripe and Advent's $60.50 offer, CEO Enrique Loras said PayPal is "open" to a better offer. Yahoo Financial data showed that PayPal shares fell about 2% after announcing second-quarter results. Although the results exceeded Wall Street expectations, the third-quarter outlook was weak and did not provide any updates on potential strategic transactions. As of writing, the stock price has risen 0.45% to $58.58, still below the $60.50 offer offered by Stripe and private equity firm Advent.

Despite the price increase, PYPL's share price is still down 80% from its all-time high set during the 2021 epidemic when e-commerce surged. The company now plans to use the rest of the year and most of 2027 to rebuild its consumer business, expand scale and modernize technology.
Kraken adds PYUSD support to Stellar Network
This week's latest developments in PYUSD stablecoins were further supported by the news that the Kraken Exchange has added the token to the Stellar Network. Kraken users can now recharge and withdraw PYUSD on the Stellar Network, opening up a fast and low-cost cross-border channel. Retail investors and institutions can now take advantage of the speed of the Stellar Network to move PayPal's dollar-linked tokens for tokenize assets and payments.

This integration is one of many initiatives to strengthen the Stellar Network as the leading ecosystem of regulated digital dollars. Over time, the Stellar Network has integrated more stablecoins, such as USDC, EURC, PYUSD, and Native Circle CCTP, with each addition enhancing the entire network.
What does this mean for PayPal's future encryption strategy?
PayPal is making a big bet on PYUSD stablecoins as a bridge between traditional finance and on-chain channels. Expansion to 70 markets, integration of the Stellar Network on Kraken, and autonomous payments all demonstrate serious intentions. The company is positioning its network, risk engine and trust layer for the next wave of digital dollar use. PayPal connects Web2 scale to DeFi by deploying native dollar liquidity on Ethereum, Solana, Stellar Network and other support chains. For investors seeking stable returns on assets such as PYUSD and institutions that need rapid settlements, PayPal has just taken another step towards mainstream chain payments.
