Bitcoin Ordinals developer Leonidas proposed to develop a new open source Bitcoin client aimed at removing restrictions that affect transactions between Runes and Ordinals. On Friday, Leonidas called the proposed client the "Bitcoin $DOG model" on the X platform, which increases the maximum single transaction size to 3.9 million weight units (WUs), while the Bitcoin Core client is limited to 400,000 WUs; and reduces the dust limit from 294-546 to 1. These adjustments will make it easier to send Ordinals inscriptions and Runes-both of which are seen as Bitcoin's interpretation of homogeneous and non-homogeneous tokens. They have been controversial within the Bitcoin community, with critics arguing that they constitute "spam" on the Bitcoin network.
"Bitcoin's core client and Bitcoin Knots software have been enforcing rules that do not exist in Bitcoin itself for years," Leonidas said in a statement. "The $DOG Corps no longer seeks permission. It's time to remove more of these unnecessary restrictions."

Increasing the maximum transaction size will allow Ordinals users to put larger files or collections into a single transaction, even including data that occupies almost an entire block. At the same time, the dust limit is a rule on the Bitcoin network that defines the minimum transaction amount (i.e. UTXO) that can be economically sent. Reducing the dust limit will prevent users from having to "fill" output in order to broadcast transactions on the default Bitcoin core node.
The Bitcoin $DOG model will become an alternative to Bitcoin's core client and Bitcoin node software, the two most widely used Bitcoin clients currently. Leonidas said the goal is to attract enough users to use the new client to force Bitcoin's core client to eventually relax its own policy restrictions.
