Gravity L1 migration: $G token details and deadline analysis

What is Gravity L1 migration?

Gravity is shutting down its Alpha main network, and the Gravity L1 migration ($G token) process is now the single most important thing for anyone holding assets on the old network. The Galxe team confirmed that the Gravity Alpha main network based on the Arbitrum Nitro-based Layer 2, which has supported the ecosystem since August 2024, will stop clearing transactions on November 1, 2026. Everything is migrating to Gravity's own Layer 1 chain, and users who fail to meet the deadline risk losing their funds permanently. This is not a token redemption or rebranding, but a chain migration, and understanding what content has changed and what remains the same is crucial.



Change content

Native tokens: The old network is G (gas token), and the new network is G (gas + pledged token).

Consensus mechanism: The old network uses Arbitrum Nitro sorting, and the new network uses pipelined AptosBFT + Grevm.

Browser: The old network is explorer.gravity.xyz, and the new network is mainnet-explorer.gravity.xyz.

Bridge: The old network is bridge.gravity.xyz, and the new network is the same portal, but the process is for L1.

Status: The old network will be shut down on November 1, 2026, and the new network is in the license verifier stage.

Launched in early June 2026, the token is a fully EVM-compatible chain based on the improved Reth stack, targeting more than 12,000 TPS on ERC-20 transfers, with a block time of approximately 200 milliseconds. Galxe's core services, including Quest, Passport and Score, have migrated to this new environment, which is why the old L2 was phased out.



Key deadline for L1 migration

Bridge exit deadline: Remove all assets from the Alpha Mainnet by November 1, 2026.

Network stop: On November 1, 2026, the Alpha main network will cease to operate, and remaining assets will not be settled and transferred.

G Pledge: Galxe G Pledge Portal will be offline on the same day, so please cancel the pledge first.

Bridge Time: Withholding native G, DAI, and WBTC through canonical bridging has a challenge period of approximately 7 days, which is a standard feature of optimism, so starting early is more important than anything else in the timeline.



Chain migration, not token migration

Many discussions about Gravity L1 migration confuse it with token migration, creating confusion. The project party has made it clear that this is just a chain transfer: no token swaps, no repricing, no new token contracts or address changes (for the ERC-20 format). Native G will migrate to L1 in a 1:1 ratio. On both chains, native tokens behave similar to ETH on Ethereum. There is no separate ERC-20 contract for native G on either network because it is a built-in Gas coin.

How to complete the migration

Different assets use different exit paths, so they need to be clearly distinguished.



Exit paths for different assets

G (native): Through the official Gravity Bridge, you need to wait about 7 days to collect it on Ethereum.

DAI, WBTC: Bridge via official Gravity, again with approximately 7 days delay.

USDT、USDC、ETH/WETH:Settlement is completed in minutes through Stargate Finance only; specification bridging is not supported.

For DAI or WBTC: Go to the official bridge website, connect to the wallet, set the source chain to Alpha mainnet, set the target chain to Ethereum, select the asset and enter the amount before submitting. Wait for about 7 days and then collect it on Ethereum. You can then choose to connect the ERC-20 from the Ethereum Bridge to L1 through the same portal, and native G will be cast on L1 at a 1:1 ratio.

For USDT, USDC, or ETH/WETH: Go to the Stargate Finance Bridge page, select Gravity (Alpha Mainnet) as the source chain, Ethereum or other supported chain as the target chain, select the asset (USDC usually appears as USDC.e) and confirm. Reserve a small amount of G on L2 to pay Gas fees until all operations are completed.

In some cases, liquidity paths such as Symbiosis can also move faster, but only official links should be used to avoid phishing risks.



Additional steps for users and developers

Unpledge on Galxe: Visit the Galxe Pledge Portal to unpledge before November 1. Tokens will be returned to their original chain, and if the original chain is the Alpha mainnet, they will still need to be bridged separately.

Smart Balance and other Galxe features: Some balances may be migrated automatically or require manual operation. Please check Galxe's own announcement.

Developer: Update the RPC endpoint and chain ID to Gravity L1 and migrate any dapps, bots, or scripts that still point to the old chain.

OAT, Credentials and Points: These are mainly platform level rather than chain binding, but it is still recommended to check Galxe for details.



Why Gravity eliminated L2

Gravity Alpha Mainnet has completed its mission. Since its launch in August 2024, it has processed hundreds of millions of transactions, helping the team identify bottlenecks in the design, including Grevm's parallel EVM execution, sub-second finality, and a verifier certified native oracle. Now that L1 has taken on production loads and provided higher throughput, running two separate networks will only distract liquidity, tools, and developers 'attention. Integration into one chain is a more sustainable path for ecosystems in the future.
