Cryptocurrency analyst Michaël van de Poppe believes that the long-term downturn in altcoins may finally come to an end. After months of weakness, multiple altcoins have now broken through key technology levels, making him more proactive in his portfolio.
Van de Poppe said that about 98% of his portfolio is currently allocated to altcoins, but he does not plan to hold all positions indefinitely. His strategy is to rotate between different tokens, actively trade market fluctuations, take profits during the rebound, and gradually increase Bitcoin, Ethereum and cash holdings to reduce risk.
Why he thinks altcoins may have a breakthrough
Van de Poppe pointed out that Bitcoin has survived multiple major market shocks and has not fallen below key support levels. Despite geopolitical tensions, the artificial intelligence boom, SpaceX-related market fluctuations and other risk events, Bitcoin remained within a broad range for more than six months.
He said bond yields are more important than headlines such as the Strait of Hormuz. If inflation continues to fall and yields in the United States and Japan fall, market risk appetite may rebound, triggering a major breakthrough in cryptocurrencies.
He also believes that investors waiting for Bitcoin to fall to $40,000 may eventually be forced to buy at higher prices because Bitcoin has not hit a new low since its February low.
His favorite altcoin options
Van de Poppe pays special attention to AVAX and has recently invested $3000. He plans to add further positions after AVAX recovers the $7 mark or clears recent lows before forming a bullish divergence. He believes Avalanche's growing real-world asset (RWA) activity makes its current valuation attractive.
Scenario 1: If AVAX:
clears recent lows; forms a bullish divergence; recovers support. Then he will add: $7000 to $10000.
Scenario 2: Break through the 21-day moving average (about US$7) and successfully step back to confirm. He will also buy: another $7000.
At the same time, NEAR is another big position he holds. Van de Poppe mentioned that its price rose from about $1.20 to $3.50, explaining that he had sold some of the rally and planned to trade future pullbacks more aggressively.
His portfolio also includes Wormhole, which accounts for about 17% of his holdings, and EigenLayer, which has an allocation of about 11%. He said he might trade EigenLayer more aggressively.
He also pointed out that AAVE is an important market signal. After hovering below the 21st and 50th moving averages for nearly a year, AAVE finally broke through these moving averages, suggesting that the altcoin may be entering a new bullish phase.
His trading plan
Van de Poppe expects altcoins to outperform Bitcoin, especially after Ethereum has shown strength against Bitcoin. However, he plans to actively take profits amid a strong rebound.
For AVAX, he may reduce exposure after prices rise from $8 to $9 range by 40% to 70%, and then buy back during a healthy correction. If the RSI rises above 70 and the momentum overheats, he plans to reduce the allocation ratio.
If momentum continues, sell about 50% at close to $9. When the uptrend remains intact, buy again at the time of the pullback.
Overall, he is currently gradually reducing the number of altcoins he holds, increasing bitcoin and cash exposure, and actively trading market cycles, rather than simply holding every rise and fall.
