Alert: Uphold will remove EVR balances from XRP holder accounts before August?

Summary:

Uphold reportedly plans to remove EVR balances, a suspected customer email saying the move was due to liquidity restrictions and regulatory requirements. Evernode distributed EVRs in 2024, but Uphold customers have never been given access to trade, withdraw, transfer or sell their tokens. Community members believe Uphold took responsibility after supporting the airdrop, but the company has not publicly confirmed it.

According to a suspected customer email circulated on social media, Uphold has notified some XRP holders that Evernode (EVR) balances earned through the 2024 airdrop will be removed. The move raised concerns because the tokens have been inaccessible since distribution and the company has not publicly confirmed the content of the communication.

According to the email, the EVR balance obtained through the March 2024 Evernode airdrop will be removed from customer accounts on August 5, 2026. The email reminds customers that they have never purchased these tokens and that the platform has never launched EVR's buy, sell, trade and withdraw functions.

In addition, the suspected email attributed the decision to two factors: EVR never met the liquidity threshold needed to support the transaction, and regulatory requirements no longer allow Uphold to hold the asset on behalf of clients.

The

notice also explained that customers do not need to take any action because the balance will be automatically removed. As a result, affected users will not be able to transfer their EVRs to external wallets until the removal is suspected.

Evernode airdrop causes EVR to be locked on Uphold

The shared email brought renewed attention to Uphold's initial support for Evernode airdrops. According to Uphold's official X announcement in August 2023, XRP holders can qualify for EVR distribution by holding XRP on the exchange during the specified snapshot period.

The company said that eligible customers will receive EVR tokens based on their XRP holdings, but the maximum allocation amount is pegged to 50,000 XRP. The announcement encourages users to leave XRP on Uphold to participate in airdrops.

Evernode completed distribution in March 2024, and Uphold credited the EVR balance for eligible customers. However, customers have never gained the ability to buy, sell, trade, transfer or withdraw tokens. Instead, they can only check balances, while assets have been locked on the platform for more than two years.

Community questions reported removals

As emails circulated on the X platform, many XRP holders were frustrated that they deliberately left XRP on Uphold to qualify for Evernode airdrop, but were unable to withdraw the tokens before a possible removal.

Meanwhile, according to cryptocurrency analyst Jungle Inc, Uphold voluntarily supported Evernode airdrops, received approximately 3.9 million EVRs allocated to customers, and credited the balance to user accounts. He believes this creates a responsibility to provide users with a practical way to capture or realize the value of these tokens.

Uphold does not have to support Evernode airdrops. But after choosing to support, receiving and crediting the nearly 3.9 million EVRs allocated to its customers 'accounts, it took on the responsibility of providing reasonable means to obtain assets or value.

Uphold has not issued an official public statement

As of press time, Uphold has not issued an official public statement confirming the content of the email or announcing the removal of the EVR balance. Similarly, the company did not publicly explain the specific regulatory requirements mentioned in the suspected customer communication, nor did it explain why the cash withdrawal function was never launched after the airdrop in March 2024.

The suspected email resurfaces concerns about Uphold's handling of Evernode airdrops. Although liquidity restrictions and regulatory obligations were mentioned in the email, XRP holders are still waiting for an official response to explain the situation and long-term restrictions on EVR holdings.
