Robinhood scores best quarterly results in history
On Wednesday, Robinhood reported its best quarterly earnings in history. Net revenue reached $1.31 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32%, and diluted earnings per share were $0.62 (expected to be $0.41). Net profit reached US$573 million (a year-on-year increase of 48%), total platform assets climbed to US$369 billion, and net deposits hit a record high of approximately US$21.7 billion. Almost every indicator performed strongly.
Perhaps the most eye-catching update comes from its forecast markets business. Robinhood's event contracts generated $156 million in revenue, a more than tenfold year-on-year increase, and surpassed the cryptocurrency ($100 million) and equity ($129 million) businesses for the first time. The cryptocurrency business showed a downward trend, with digital asset revenue falling 38% year-on-year to US$100 million, and retail transaction volume continued to cool. Options business grew 29% to US$342 million, equities business grew 95%, becoming the main growth drivers, while Trump account expenses also drove other income up 54%. CEO Vlad Tenev views the entire company as 13 independent business lines, each with annualized revenue of more than $100 million, pointing to the goal of "making everyone an owner."
Of course, Robinhood Chain was also mentioned. Tenev said in a conference call that the chain has "gained initial great appeal," with its decentralized exchange (DEX) processing more than US$12 billion in transaction volume and becoming the fastest network to reach 100 million transactions, with a total locked position (TVL) of approximately US$325 million. He also showed a demonstration of browsing the chain on his mobile phone and clearly displayed CASHCAT, causing the head Meme coin on the chain to surge by 40%.
Judging from the market reaction, HOOD stocks fell on the day and did not recover significantly after hours. Price movements appear to be more related to hawkish FOMC than Robinhood's better-than-expected results. But in the long run, the business is stronger than ever. They have 13 business lines with annual revenues of more than $100 million and several major growth directions. This is definitely a bullish pattern…
