Core Points
The organization denies creating, promoting or controlling meme tokens associated with the address.
This incident raises the question of how to properly retire wallets associated with disclosure when employees leave.
Legal action against individuals does not automatically remove deployed tokens.
According to the organization, the employee retained the wallet's mnemonic after leaving the company and later used it to regain control of the address.
BNB Chain became aware of the problem after discovering that the address was associated with a newly issued token. It denies creating, authorizing or promoting the asset and says it has no control over the token or the wallet.
This wallet address was previously created by a former employee to generate a token as part of a video tutorial. This person is currently no longer working in the company, and this matter is related to this.
The individual retained unauthorized access to the relevant mnemonic.

The focus of controversy is the wallet, not BNB Chain
BNB Chain did not describe the incident as a vulnerability in its blockchain, damaged verifier, or an attack that affected users across the network.
The dispute involves a specific wallet previously used for company-related content. Since anyone can create a token on a permission-free blockchain, the deployment of the token alone cannot prove that it is associated with BNB Chain.
The historical record of the address makes the situation even more sensitive. Anyone who looks at its early transactions can see that it was used in BNB Chain's tutorials and may mistakenly interpret follow-up activities as authorized by the organization.
The blockchain cannot determine whether the person signing the transaction is still employed by a company that was once associated with the address. It only identifies control over the relevant private key.
Malicious actors can use this apparent connection to attract buyers and then withdraw liquidity after traders enter the market mistakenly believing that the token has official support.
This vulnerability explains why BNB Chain's public denials are crucial: Even if the group claims that the address should no longer be considered an official or authorized address, the address may continue to operate normally on the chain.
Incident exposed a gap in the wallet's resignation and handover process
If the description of BNB Chain is accurate, then this incident points out the loopholes in the wallet's retirement process after the employee leaves.
If a former employee retains the wallet's mnemonics, removing access to company devices, email accounts, and internal systems does not ensure the wallet's security. Mnemonic words can be used to recover private keys from another device without accessing the organization's systems.
Changing a normal password will not solve this problem. Once the recovery information may have been copied, it is safer to stop using the address, transfer all assets or management functions to a newly created secure wallet, and make it clear that the old address is no longer authorized.
Even a tutorial wallet that does not hold company funds requires a documented retirement process after its original use ends. Organizations should record who has its recovery information, what the address may be used for, and whether assets or management rights need to be relocated when the responsible employee leaves.
BNB Chain did not disclose whether the wallet held company assets, whether former employees benefited from the meme token, or whether the buyer bought the token based on the address's history.
Legal action will not automatically remove the token
BNB Chain can refuse any association with the token, provide evidence to authorities, and file a lawsuit against former employees. But these steps do not automatically delete smart contracts or reverse transactions that have occurred.
What happens next depends in part on the design of the token. Exchanges, liquidity providers and market data platforms may flag or restrict the token, while contract-level controls may allow certain functions to be suspended. Without these controls, the token could continue to circulate on the chain even if there were legal disputes.
Therefore, BNB Chain's statement should not be interpreted as evidence that the token is safe, has been disabled, or may compensate the buyer.
Users should confirm the contract address through BNB Chain's official channels, rather than relying on the reputation or transaction history of the deployment wallet.
Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng responded that the former employee was "basically a liar" and told users to "keep SAFU."
This is Zhao Changpeng's personal characterization, not a legal ruling. BNB Chain has announced charges and taken legal action, but did not disclose the courts, jurisdictions, cases filed or the decisions of law enforcement agencies.
The next noteworthy developments will be evidence of the legal action BNB Chain claims has initiated, including the jurisdiction, the content of the allegations and any measures sought against former employees.
