On June 12, 2026, Elon Musk made history-SpaceX completed the largest initial public offering in history, with an offering price of US$135 per share, and its valuation on the first day of listing exceeded US$2 trillion. The incident pushed Musk's personal net worth to more than $1 trillion, making him the first individual in human history to cross this threshold. However, this milestone lasted only 49 days.

As of July 31, SpaceX shares have retreated sharply below the offering price, hitting an intraday low of $132.15 earlier this month. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk's net worth has fallen back to about $800 billion, missing about $200 billion from its peak. The world's first trillionaire is no longer a trillionaire.

The cryptocurrency held by his company

Putting aside the noise, the cryptocurrency picture ultimately boils down to two verified corporate positions. SpaceX holds 18,712 bitcoins, worth approximately $1.19 billion based on today's bitcoin price of $62,000. Tesla holds 11,509 bitcoins on its balance sheet, worth approximately $714 million. The two companies together hold 30,221 bitcoins worth approximately US$1.87 billion.

US$1.87 billion may sound substantial, but compared with US$800 billion in net assets, it only accounts for about 0.23% of its total wealth.

The mystery of personal positions

Disclosure of Musk's personal cryptocurrency is quite limited. In 2020, he confirmed holding 0.25 bitcoins, which is approximately US$15,500 at the current price. He confirmed that he held dogcoin in 2021, but only described it as "a bunch" and never disclosed the specific amount. He confirmed his possession of Ethereum at the "The B Word" meeting in July 2021, but also did not disclose the amount. No financial declaration documents required him to detail his personal cryptocurrency positions, and he never voluntarily disclosed them.

There is an on-chain theory that he may be a mysterious whale holding more than 36 billion dogcoins, worth about $2.48 billion-but this is completely unconfirmed and Musk himself has never responded.

The man who can make the price of Dogecoin fluctuate by double digits with just a single tweet is almost equated with cryptocurrencies in mainstream media, but verified cryptocurrency exposure (individuals plus businesses) is only between US$1.87 billion and the theoretical maximum of US$4.35 billion. Compared with net assets of US$800 billion, this ratio ranges from 0.23% to 0.54%. The world's most well-known cryptocurrency influencer, yet less than 1% of his wealth is invested in the assets he talks about most.
