How a joke about Tether's pronunciation triggered Stable's first memin craze

Everything from pronunciation jokes to real memin

started with a relaxed video released by Tether Wallet asking whether the stablecoin giant's name should be pronounced "Teh-ther" or "Tee-ther". Tether's CEO then quoted and forwarded it with only one word "Fefer" and a blue dinosaur emoji. Traders quickly seized on this issue and minted $FEFER tokens on the Stable network within hours, turning a casual joke into the first memin moment on the chain.

The token is rising rapidly. Within one day of launch, its market value exceeded US$8.8 million, and it fell back only after approaching US$11 million. StableScan's on-chain data shows that the token has 5814 holders, with more than 54,000 transactions, and the largest single wallet address only controls 3.66% of the total supply, which means that for such a young token, The distribution of holders is relatively scattered.

This incident reveals the early development of Stable.

The Stable network itself is a USDT Gas Layer 1 blockchain supported by Bitfinex and associated with Tether. The project is described as a Layer 1 blockchain specifically designed for stablecoins and payments, backed by Bitfinex and powered by USDT. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino serves as an adviser to Stable, reflecting the close relationship between the two companies-they share ownership through parent company iFinex. The chain is mainly for institutional payments and settlements, rather than retail speculation.

Because of this, the $FEFER event has become a data point worthy of attention. An emoji derived from CEO social media posts has spawned tens of thousands of online transactions and attracted thousands of new wallets to a network that has seen little retail activity before. Stable's official account pointed out that as Fefer activity grew on the chain, the transaction volume exceeded 167,000 in 24 hours.

This model is not new in the field of encryption. Cultures and communities often come to the chain before the payment infrastructure they support. Ironically for a network like Stable with serious institutional ambitions, its first moment of viral spread came not from a PayPal integration or the Anchorage collaboration, but from a CEO's dinosaur emoji.
