Hackers broke into Tenev's X account and used it to promote fake $VLAD memecoin
The hack occurred after the assets on the Robinhood Chain exceeded US$700 million. Due to rumors surrounding the Robinhood Chain ecosystem, hackers have targeted one of the most influential figures in the cryptocurrency space. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev's official X account was hacked and was subsequently used to promote the fraudulent token. Hackers created a fake token called Vladhood ($VLAD) and falsely claimed it was the official mascot of Robinhood Chain.
Alert: Our CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was hacked and a false promotional message about memin was posted. We are working with X to restore account access and the post has been deleted. -- Robinhood Comms (@RobinhoodComms) A deleted post on July 23, 2026
claimed that Robinhood would launch the token within its app and provided a wallet address for purchase. The post also stated that the token is consistent with Robinhood's broader blockchain strategy and encourages community participation. In addition, the message also mentioned Robinhood's support for meme culture through the CEO's social media accounts. Robinhood quickly confirmed the hack into Tenev's X account and clarified that the post had nothing to do with the company. They said they had worked directly with X to regain access to their accounts.
Robinhood Chain Activity Continues to Increase
The incident occurred at a time when Robinhood Chain's on-chain activity was in a period of rapid growth. Robinhood launched the blockchain earlier this month, and users have added more than $700 million in stablecoins, tokenized stocks and memecoins to the network. According to data collected by Entropy Advisors using the Dune Analytics dashboard, the network exceeded 300,000 daily active addresses and completed approximately 10 million transactions in just one day. This makes Robinhood Chain one of the fastest-growing blockchain networks launched recently.
Rapid expansion of ecosystems attracts fraud
Rapid expansion of ecosystems often triggers speculation that scammers use to promote scams to retail investors. As the popularity of Robinhood Chain has soared, unofficial memes have emerged one after another, which is a reflection of this phenomenon. In addition to scams involving $VLAD tokens, there is also a wave of speculative tokens trying to attract attention by citing well-known brands and executives. Robinhood's quick response minimized the exposure of the fraud and also highlighted the importance of verifying the authenticity of any news through official websites. In addition, despite frequent blockchain activity, well-known social media accounts still face cyber security threats. As new applications continue to emerge and traders actively use the platform, market participants continue to pay attention to the growth of Robinhood Chain.
