Robinhood confirmed that CEO X account was hacked to promote fake VLAD memin.
Robinhood confirmed that hackers hacked CEO Vlad Tenev's X account and used the account to promote fake VLAD memin. Unauthorized posts falsely claimed that the token was an official project of Robinhood and used fabricated listing information to mislead users.
Posts posted through compromised accounts claimed that Robinhood planned to launch a token called Vladhood with the code code number VLAD and described it as the official mascot of Robinhood Chain. In addition, the message also claimed that Robinhood would launch the token within its trading app, with a smart contract address that starts with 0x92d.
However, Robinhood never made this announcement through its official Enterprise X account, and Robinhood Crypto remained silent throughout the incident. As a result, users quickly questioned the authenticity of the post and warned others not to interact with it.
A few minutes later, blockchain data further confirmed these concerns-Robinhood Chain's blockchain browser marked the token as a potential scam. Records show that there were approximately 1,868 transactions after the token was deployed, and a wallet operated under the contract name Pons LaunchFactory created the token before trading activity increased.
Robinhood confirms unauthorized posts, memin activity continues to grow
Robinhood later responded to the matter through its communications account on X, and the company confirmed that the attacker had unauthorized access to Tenev's account and worked with X to restore access and remove the misleading post. In addition to confirming the intrusion, Robinhood clarified that it had no connection with VLAD memecoin and had never announced an official token issuance or platform listing. Therefore, users are advised to ignore fraudulent statements shared through compromised accounts.
Robinhood Chain has attracted more and more attention since it was launched on July 1 as an Ethereum Layer 2 network built on the Arbitrum Orbit stack. However, memin has become one of its most active trading categories. Cashcat remains one of the network's most well-known memecoins, while Robinhood Chain processes nearly 6 million transactions a day. Entropy Advisors estimates that cumulative decentralized exchange trading volume is approximately US$9 billion, with the majority of activity driven by speculative miniin trading.
According to a previous post by Tenev on X, Robinhood Chain is designed to serve real-world assets while also supporting meme-based projects. This early comment was mentioned again when users compared it to fraudulent announcements.
Incidents involving social media accounts being hacked are still common in the cryptocurrency industry, with attackers often using verified accounts to promote fake tokens. Companies often quickly regain control of accounts and issue public warnings to limit potential losses.
Conclusion
Robinhood responded quickly by confirming that the account had been compromised and deleting unauthorized posts. At the same time, the incident highlighted how scammers used trusted executives to spread fraudulent cryptocurrency promotion messages during periods of active memin activity.
