Elon Musk promised to send dogcoin to the moon in 2021. On September 14, 2026, 49 days from now, SpaceX's DOGE-1 CubeStar mission is scheduled to be launched into space. This satellite is fully funded by Dogecoin. This is literally a dog coin flying to the moon.
Musk has also separately stated that he plans to place a physical dog coin on the surface of the moon around 2027. But the launch on September 14 is the catalyst at hand, and the trading price of Dogecoin is about US$0.073, which has dropped about 90% from the historical high of US$0.74 in May 2021.
Every dogcoin holder is asking the same question at the moment: What happened in the past? How does history evaluate Musk's catalytic effect?
Historical laws deserve attention.
This pattern is consistent and deserves attention. In April 2019, Musk tweeted that Dogecoin "may be my favorite cryptocurrency." People who bought $1000 Doggecoin that day for $0.003 accumulated 33,333 tokens, which are now worth $25,666, compared with nearly $246,000 at their peak in May 2021.
In November 2024, Musk was appointed to lead the "Department of Government Efficiency," whose acronym DOGE was deliberately chosen, which caused Dogecoin to rise from US$0.12 to US$0.48 in a few days.
In January 2025, Trump's inauguration ceremony once again briefly pushed it above $0.48. Each time, the catalyst fluctuates violently before the event, and then gradually dissipates.
The May 2021 appearance of "Saturday Night Live" is a warning story. Dogecoin peaked on the day of the show and has never approached that level since. Musk called it a "trick" on the live broadcast, and prices plummeted immediately.
In March 2026, when he released an AI-generated video of himself playing the "dog father", the price fluctuated almost without any change.
Status of Dogecoin
Dogecoin currently has two US-listed spot ETFs, namely REX-Osprey's DOJE (launched in September 2025) and 21Shares's TDOG (debuted on Nasdaq in January 2026, becoming the first spot product approved by the SEC and recognized by the Dogecoin Foundation).
The two funds hold a total of approximately US$20 million in assets, and institutional access channels have been opened, but there has been no significant capital inflow.
Dogecoin is also listed as the top altcoin worth accumulating in July 2026, along with XRP and SOL. ETF optimism and X Payments integration are seen as catalysts for the future.
49-day countdown
The DOGE-1 launch is the most specific and regular Musk-related catalyst in Dogecoin's history. This is not a tweet, nor is it a TV appearance. Instead, it is a satellite funded by Dogecoin, carrying a SpaceX rocket and launching on a specific date.
Whether the market will digest the news ahead of September 14 or sell it after it comes to market-this is a question that no one can answer for sure.
History tells us that the window period before an event occurs, not after, is the time when market fluctuations often occur. 49 days is not a long time.
