Bybit's payment subsidiary in Europe has obtained the Austrian Electronic Money Institution license, providing a regulatory basis for the exchange to expand payment and electronic money services on regional platforms.

On Tuesday, Bybit announced that its subsidiary Bybit Payments GmbH has obtained a license from the Austrian Financial Markets Authority. The authorization provides a legal basis for future payment services, which may include personal-to-person payments, merchant payment solutions, open banking functions, and card products.

These payment services will be provided through Bybit.eu in parallel with the services provided by Bybit EU GmbH. Bybit EU GmbH is another Austrian entity authorized in May 2025 under the European Union Cryptographic Asset Markets Regulation (MiCA). Bybit.eu serves users in the European Economic Area (EEA), except in Malta.

Bybit did not explain the specific reasons for excluding Malta, but its website stated that the service is only available in jurisdictions that meet MiCA right-of-way requirements.

Bybit said the two entities will maintain independent regulatory authority and responsibilities. Bybit EU GmbH is authorized to provide crypto asset custody, exchange, placement and transfer services, while Bybit Payments GmbH will be responsible for supervising compliant e-money and payment products. As the products are gradually launched, related business will also be handled by the entity.

The exchange said this new regulatory milestone will help strengthen its partnerships with banks, payment service providers and companies, while reducing its reliance on third-party payment infrastructure.
