Ross Gerber: Siler's strategy weakens my belief in Bitcoin

Doubts on Siler's strategy

Ross Gerber, a well-known Tesla supporter and early cryptocurrency investor, expressed strong doubts about the direction of Bitcoin's development, citing the worrying impact of Michael Siler and his company's strategy on the market. Gerber, who has built a reputation with his huge investments in technology stocks and digital assets, is now questioning the future of Bitcoin, thanks to Siler's growing influence.

Gerber sent multiple tweets on the X platform, directly challenging Michael Siler, co-founder of Business Intelligence Company Strategy. Strategy holds one of the world's largest corporate bitcoin reserves, but its continued practice of expanding its bitcoin holdings through debt and capital markets has been repeatedly criticized by Gerber. Seler's strategy has Gerber suspicious, especially given reports that despite Seler's public commitment never to sell bitcoin, Strategy has recently begun liquidating some of its bitcoin reserves. Gerber complained that he had never sold bitcoin, in sharp contrast to Seler's company.

Gerber bluntly said,"Thaler's relationship with Strategy makes it difficult for me to take Bitcoin seriously." He believes that buying at high levels and selling at low levels reflects the instability of strategic companies.

He also accused Siler of sending confusing signals, saying that the company's actual actions were inconsistent with Siler's public statement about long-term holding of Bitcoin. "So, do what I say, not what my listed company does... Buy Bitcoin at a high level and sell at a low level, is this what a company should do?" Gerber questioned.

Questioning Strategy's impact on the market

In a series of tweets from June to July, Gerber repeatedly criticized Strategy's negative impact on the cryptocurrency market. He blamed part of Bitcoin's poor performance on Siler's decision, arguing that a sell-off by large corporate holders could trigger an asset downward spiral.

Gerber has previously pointed out that large-scale selling by companies such as strategic companies will accelerate the liquidation of small investors and intensify price declines. "Siler said he would never sell Bitcoin, but then he pulled up shipments, and the market went lower, creating a vicious cycle in which all speculators were liquidated." He wrote.

He also questioned Strategic's business strategy, questioning whether its desperate sell-off meant a failure of its business approach. "The strategy is to sell at a desperate low price? Is Sylar's stupid Bitcoin trick finally coming to an end?" Gerber questioned last month.

(Note: Strategy is a U.S. listed business intelligence company co-founded by Michael Siler. It is famous for its large-scale acquisition of Bitcoin and plays an important role in corporate adoption of digital assets.)

Gerber's Bitcoin Investment Experience

Gerber began to come into contact with Bitcoin as early as 2014 and observed it with Ethereum for seven years before participating as an investor. By 2018, he had expressed his intention to hold cryptocurrencies for a long time, viewing Bitcoin as an inflation hedge and digital gold. These views strengthened his long-term confidence in the asset, which remained unwavering even in the face of market downturns.

Despite years of advocacy, Gerber's views changed in early 2025. According to Business Insider, in March of that year, he sold most of his Bitcoin holdings and transferred some of the proceeds to gold in response to changes in global markets. Gerber's move marks a major shift from his stance as a well-known supporter of cryptocurrencies.

He commented on social media that the cycle of corporate greed and the inconsistency of words and deeds among major players in the ecosystem are damaging Bitcoin's long-term prospects.
