Midseason playoff competition is injecting new money into the baseball prediction market, with the Los Angeles Dodgers 'championship contract attracting nearly $68 million in total transactions on Polymarket and Kalshi platforms.
Key Points:
The Dodgers 'World Series contracts were traded approximately $35 million on Polymarket and approximately $32.7 million on Kalshi before entering All-Star weekend.
The trading deadline on August 3 is expected to be the busiest week for baseball trading this year.
Major League Baseball (MLB) appointed Polymarket as its exclusive forecasting market partner in March this year.
The Dodgers dominate Polymarket and Kalshi's World Series odds
Two platforms are pricing baseball's biggest suspense in the run-up to All-Star weekend almost in sync. Data released Sunday showed that the Los Angeles Dodgers had about three times the lead of the second-place team on both charts. The championship contract is worth approximately $35 million on Polymarket and approximately $32.7 million on Kalshi, making it the deepest baseball market listed on both platforms.
The New York Yankees lead the American League competition, but by a narrow margin, with Seattle and Tampa Bay close behind, and the gap between the two platforms rarely exceeds a few percentage points. Smaller contracts focus on Monday's home run contest, with Kyle Schwaber topping both charts with a winning percentage of 22%. At present, the activity of sports forecasting has exceeded that of politics on both platforms.
MLB trade deadline and draft drive betting volume
The schedule foreshadows more deals in the second half of the season. The league has set this year's trading deadline for August 3, the latest date allowed by current labor agreements, and trade reports during that window could change division and championship odds in minutes. Traders can build or close positions at the instant the news breaks, a speed advantage that traditional sports betting companies cannot match.
Last Saturday's draft in Philadelphia also generated big news. The Chicago White Sox picked UCLA shortstop Roach Jorowski with the No. 1 pick, and the top-ranked team reached a deal with him within hours.
Polymarket's global trading platform settles positions in U.S. dollar stablecoins (USDC), while Kalshi operates under federal supervision, a difference that makes the cryptocurrency system the underlying foundation for baseball's fastest-growing betting tier.
Baseball's shift to these platforms began long before the game started. Major League Baseball designated Polymarket as its official forecast market exchange on March 19. Sources estimate the agreement to be worth as much as $300 million over three years. At the same time, league commissioners also signed integrity agreements with federal regulators. Since then, trading volumes have steadily increased, with World Cup contracts pushing sports transactions on both platforms to record highs this summer. Baseball has quietly entered this channel, and its 162-game season now provides a steady stream of odd-changing events in these markets, which is exactly what it was designed for.
